I'm not too disappointed in the signing because I know there is not a great deal of options around and he's a decent player. But the concern would be that Graham Potter has chosen an ageing Danny Welbeck to be ahead of Maupay this season and that doesn't necessarily bode well.
First of all Maupay was a regular starter up until the end of last season, we had already brought Deniz Undav as his replacement who we loaned back to USG. During this time Welbeck form got better, so the writing was on the wall for Maupay. We offered Welbeck a new 2 year deal, with only 1 year left on his contract, Brighton decided to accept offers for him.
Maupay is not your 20 to 30 goal a season striker, if thats what you want then good luck with that, your be paying a £50m plus for that with no guarantee that you get someone like that, what you will get with Maupay is 100% commitment, play him up top with someone else and he will create space for them. For £15m its a good deal for both clubs imo.
