I agree that Maupay at his best is better than Rondon anno 2022. But there is a difference between Maupay at his best and a Maupay that has not started a competitive football match in more than 4 months.
Also, the reality that many seem to forget, is that with the current system and squad, Everton hardly create chances for its striker. Richarlison was more of a threat from wide positions. Calvert-Lewin scored once from open play in 1300 minutes last season. Rondon not scoring is not only because he is bad. Lewandowski would look awful in most matches as Everton striker.
It does not really matter if we play Rondon or Maupay as striker when the majority of Evertons shots will come from Gordon and Gray in bad positions.
Important to remember that we play Brentford. The most physical team in the league. They want a scrap. End to end stuff. Lots of freekicks and long throw-ins. Because they are world class on both offensive and defensive set pieces.
Brentford made a joke out of ten Hag when he selected a small United team last time they played at home. They can not wait to outmuscle and bully Everton tomorrow. I am sure they are worried when Lampard comes with his five foot tall new shiny toy.
I disagree with pretty much everything you said again.
Maupay might not be at his sharpest without competitive starts but he will still offer more sharpness than Rondon.
We haven’t created anything because Rondon hasn’t been able to keep up with the play when we’ve gone end to end.
You say Brentford want to play end to end football and you’re right. That’s even more reason you need strikers that can keep up with Gray and Gordon and get on the end of breaks - Rondon can’t.
If Brentford are the most physical team in the league and want a scrap, surely we beat them by not playing into their game? If we play fast breaking football against big grock defenders we have much more chance to score than putting in crosses they eat up for breakfast. Great example is
Michael Keane. When we defended deep against United and Chelsea last season he looked class and cleared everything. Whenever he was up against fast players and got in a foot race he was destroyed.
Also a lot of Brentford’s recent success from set pieces was when Eriksen was there and to call Brentford world class at anything is a bit over the top!
