Homepage Article NDiaye Upfront?

We shouldn’t of been put in this position, many fans were adamant that we didn’t need another striker and that a RB was priority, not getting a striker in will be the biggest reason that this will be another mediocre season, at best. We need a striker as much today as we did two months ago and January is a nightmare market to get a striker in. The club clearly felt they were ok in that position as there were not credible links to targets and now we’re gonna feel the effects of the negligence. It’s unfair to expect too much from Barry and most know Beto will never be good enough or anywhere near. Another season written off.

we will get one in jan

but not as good as summer one

so loan

can’t all be done in one window

We didn’t need another striker though, we just needed one of the ones we’ve got to be good. It’s not like we’re playing Keane up front because we haven’t got an actual striker, we’re just discussing whether the strikers we have are offering enough, having chermiti or Danny ings on the books wouldn’t solve that.

Agree with last sentence, disagree that we didn’t need another striker.

The problem I see is we’ll still be pumping the ball up to him expecting him to win it as we do with B&B when he’s totally isolated, we need to change the game plan if he’s to play up top.

Didn’t Thierry Henry make a similar transition once upon a time?

He was 3y younger and did have Arsène Wenger to help him, mind - not to mention Overmars, Petit, Bergkamp et al feeding him the chances.

I think Henry struggled playing through the middle and when he was moved to the left it was his eureka moment. Though I accept my memory on this might be wrong

One of the only 2 forwards who managed to score consistently under Moyes was a converted wide forward so maybe it could work, although Antonio's hold up play was exceptional.

I'd play Ndiaye up top, he won't win headers but Beto and Barry don't win many, even if they do it goes to the opponents keeper. Ndiaye will hold it up if played to his feet and will run at them if given the chance as we know

We aren’t losing much by playing him up top instead of the the other 2. But only if Charly is played as the 10, and they are instructed to swap fluidly. We set up with both positions level when the other team has the ball at the back anyway. When we have it, one goes into the defence and the other drops deeper.

Zero movement from our strikers this season. Be vaguely interesting to see these top chop and change to pull CBs momentarily out of position.

However, this fanciful notion is something we could try against weaker cup opposition. Can’t see us doing it this in what is now a very important PL game.

Plus, Barry and Ndiaye are both walking round with faces like a smacked arse at the moment. Ndiaye wants and needs to be on the left, and dropping Barry for a non-striker would be as damaging for his morale as repeatedly playing midfielders, CB’s and pensioners ahead of Patto at RB.
