Moyes tactics and FM

Player Valuation: £1m
So all the exploits of the past few weeks, Cup runs, league finishes and players signing/ rumoured to be signing led to me trying my luck on FM 2009 again.

I'd already played the game once this season, building an Everton team in my image, trying my own formations and tactics. Needless to say I failed miserably and got frustrated, eventually losing interest in it after a few months.

This time however, I've decided to approach EVERYTHING taking into account the Gospel according to Moyes; for example signings have to be right. They have to have all of the attributes Moyes would be looking for in a good signing.

Attributes such as Determination, Concentration, Teamwork, Stamina and Position (feel free to suggest something I have overlooked) all have to be 15/20 minimum in order to qualify as a signing I think Moyes would be looking at.

Tactics is something I am still trying to tinker with so the game engine plays out as if Moyes has influenced it.

Lets say Moyes did play FM :) and his strongest team for argument's sake was the following in a 4-1-4-1 formation:

Howard

Hibbert
Jagielka
Lescott
Baines

Arteta
Fellaini
Neville
Cahill
Pienaar

Yakubu

Addressing each player's tactics and playing mentality individually, how would Moyes set them all based on the following:

Mentality; Ultra Defensive to All-out Attack, on a rating of 1 to 20.

Creative Freedom; Little to Much, on a rating of 1 to 20.

Passing Style; Short to Long, on a rating of 1 to 20.

Closing Down; Own Area/ Own Half/ Whole Pitch, on a rating of 1 to 20.

Tackling; Easy, Normal or Hard, on a rating of 1 to 3.

Forward Runs; Rarely, Mixed or Often, on a rating of 1 to 3.

Run with Ball; Rarely, Mixed or Often, on a rating of 1 to 3.

Long Shots; Rarely, Mixed or Often, on a rating of 1 to 3.

Through Balls; Rarely, Mixed or Often, on a rating of 1 to 3.

Cross Ball; Rarely, Mixed or Often, on a rating of 1 to 3.

So if we were to apply these to Tony Hibbert, lets say the following would apply:

Tony Hibbert

Mentality; 5

Creative Freedom; 7

Passing Style; 12

Closing Down; 7

Tackling; 3

Forward Runs; 2

Run with Ball; 1

Long Shots; 1

Through Balls; 1

Cross Ball; 2

What would the ratings be for the rest of that starting XI according to how Moyes has the current Everton team playing.

One word...CHRIST!

Anyway, Yakubu is shiit as a lone striker as lone strikers dont really rack up the goals on FM anyway (especially since the patch came in).

It's a bit long winded I know Kenada, I'm very bored.

What would your ratings for the Yak be in that set up then?

Yaks ratings are pretty spot on on the game, put Id slap an extra point on his finishing.

But he's not banging em in for me when I started playing. And I made Everton play like Arsenal right from the off, even against the big teams, the team just never converted their chances.

Isn't his first touch something like 10 out of 20? Last time I checked it was but that was one of the older versions.

He's quite poor technically which is rubbish. Steven Pienaar was really poor aswell and he could only play in one position, in the hole.

He steps up when I play him. Left wing or attacking midfield.

But Yak's going for me at the end of the season. I got Marco Pantelic on a free and he's banged in almost as many goals.

I've got lots of youth strikers coming through so if I get a Bojan or someone I'll be powning.

So what do you look for in a player then? I've been guilty in the past for buying players with the wrong attitude, they've come in and unsettled the team or just been playing for a move to a bigger club.

I'm trying to mould my squad into a Moyes-type one, Ultra determined and professional, but these types of players don't come cheap.

Protip - Since patch 9.3 Everton are fooking boss, and generally require only one eye on the game to finish in the top 4 in your first season, build from there

I started playing right from the beginning with the 9.3 patch installed and didn't do as well as fourth.

I had some decent cup runs and finished mid-table, the players I bought just stopped playing for me all of a sudden and I lost interest.

On the new game I'm playing I've recently tinkered with tactics (see the original post) so that the team play as close to how they do in the flesh as possible.

For example each player is told to close down in certain areas, each player has a set creativity level, passing level (safe or more daring) and each player has a role when going forward (ie Pienaar and Baines bombing forward whereas Hibbert and Osman on the right are more reserved).

Seems to be working, played three, won two, drawn 1 (v United!), conceded 0 :D

Anyone recommend any players? Preferably talented team-players...

Lulinha!

hehe. I don't think you can poach him anymore can you? He was boss tho. Scored about 40 goals in his first season when I got him. Pity in real life he's faded a bit. I used to go for Jean II Makoun. Bresciano was quite good.

This is Moyes team in 2015 on my game

HOWARD

David MURPHY Michael TURNER Darren O'DEA Paul CADDIS

Lubos KALOUDA Fabrice MUAMBA Grant LEADBITTER Vladim DEMIDOV

James McFADDEN

Bruno FORMAROLI

Shocking.

Pablo Osvaldo from Fiorentina. He doesn't start for them, I signed him for £5.75m but reckon I could've got the price down further had I really tried. Argentinian born Italian national, left winger, can fill in up front too. Doing a beast for me, just scored a last minute winner against Boro.
