Football FanCast Columnist Joe Jennings firmly believes Russian international, Andrei Arshavin is the man to bridge the gap between his beloved Everton and the "Top 3".
Rumours continue to circulate regarding the future of Russian international Andrei Arshavin, one thing has proved a certainty, and Arshavin is a player of real quality, a fine representative of his profession.
It is absolutely crucial, an imperative in fact, that Everton show ambition this summer, we have continually settled for summers of frustration, the days of mediocre signings should be banished from memory, they are no longer suffice.
Arshavin's natural ability to provide defence splitting passes is something that Everton desperately lack, particularly since the complete downturn in fortunes of Spaniard Mikel Arteta. Yes Fernandes has shown, albeit briefly since returning to the club, of his genuine quality, Everton desperately seek more players of that style.
The greatest side's in the world attack with pace and power. Attack as much as possible, rarely sit back and sneak a goal when the opportunity arises. The prospect of an Everton side with such attacking style would be one that all of us would relish, surely?
Admittedly, Everton are a typical "English" side, adopting an unsophisticated approach. Flair simply must be added to the ranks, if not, we can settle for a mid table predicament. We must have ambition, we must be adventuresome.
Arshavin, immensely impressive at Goodison Park when the Toffees faced Zenit in the UEFA Cup group stage, has made no secret of the fact that he would welcome a move to the Premier League, what more does David Moyes need to know? Strength in depth is determinative when the season reaches a climax, it really can make or break a season. Our complete lack of depth is evident, embarrassing if you ask me.
Why do I get the sense if we do not act swiftly, we will undoubtedly live to regret the fact another potentially world class player has slipped through our net? Was the January transfer window yet another missed opportunity?
Watching the Russian literally tear apart a wavering Bayer Leverkusen defence was a sheer joy to the eyes, the boy has class, and in abundance at that.
Maybe I have a champagne taste when the unfortunate reality of the situation is we have a bog-standard beer budget. Should we "break the bank"? Considering the wide climate of investment within the Premier League, surely, somehow, someway, Arshavin can be obtained within our resources.
Forget Kallstrom, please don't ponder Nolan and whilst you're there, forget the somewhat overrated David Bentley, Arshavin is the man not only to dramatically improve the Everton squad but to bridge the perceptible gap between ourselves and the "Top 3". Fortune favours the brave, go for it Everton, we will not be dissatisfied.
