"I wasn't hurt by the reaction to the Wigan defeat last week but everything seemed to come to a head. For some reason the the fans seemed to think my contractual position was the reason for that result. So was my position the reason for the Manchester City result? I know what we have to work with and the boundaries restricting where we can go as a football club. I'm the one who actually knows all that and maybe the supporters don't know all these things and they are expecting something more from us. When we went down to 10 men on Saturday I made a couple of substitutions that weren't popular, even though I felt it was right to keep us in the game. I hope people now realise I got that right. I know I was being questioned about it and I hope those people are now big enough to turn round and say: 'He got it right.' Last week didn't influence whether I stay or leave at the end of the season and this result won't either. I've always said where we finish will determine what happens. I hope I get respect for having been here 11 years. I'll always give Everton that respect and I hope that will now be mutual."

I'm not sure Moyes gets the reason why we were all so frustrated after the Wigan defeat. We were all angry because:
- it was yet another Very Important Match defeat to go along with 11 years of limp cup & derby defeats.
- we failed to ignite some urgency after half-time to at least give the fans some encouragement.
- the players seemed lost against relegation battlers in an FA Cup Quarterfinal, yet happen to turn it on for the next league match against more glamorous opponents.
And again, in every post-match interview, we get the sob story about how limited our resources are. We know this! But going on about it (and our captain stating we're actually over-achieving) doesn't exactly give our players the superiority-complex they need to win the big games.
Also, by stating he thinks that it's the fans who don't get it, and that we should give him more respect, he invites the criticism that he thinks he's bigger than the club.
I don't intend for this to be an anti-Moyes thread. Clearly he's doing very well with what he's got, and we're in a strong league position pushing for Europe. But the one big criticism (that we lose the biggest games in pathetic fashion) doesn't seem to have been answered by his statement here.
For me to be 100% convinced Moyes is right for us for the next few years, I'd like him to address this issue (and without going on about how we don't have the money to compete in the big games).
How do yous see it?
