a long ball is when a player or goal keeper kicks the ball long down the field to the attackers missing out the midfield. what we do when we win the second ball in the opposition half was decent especially when we had pienaar and before he pulled arteta back. if we have a free kick anywhere in the opposition half even if the angle is poor, we put the ball in the box. we play direct football with some nice play in the opposition half. most of the time we lose possession.

Just to add, watch our defence when howard has the ball, 99% of the time they will all run up to the halfway line as a unit. Only occasionally a dfender will drop back usually to be waved away by howard. this has always been a tactic in the moyes era. if he didn't like it he would stop it.
