Moyes fascination with Scottish players

We are linked to 3 kids, we wont sign all of them. Moyes signings over the years

Naysmith
Mcfadden

who else? my memory gone right now.

Yep, in ten years Moyes has signed two Scottish players - both of whom internationals on free transfers (granted, the first time we signed McFadden there was a fee involved). He has certainly been interested in a few others over the years - Barry Ferguson, Fat Adam - but hardly enough to warrant 'fascination'.

Oh yeah, it's not exclusive to those two, and it's only been happening in a glut of late. Nevertheless, Moyes has never struck me as having a great network of contacts who he can turn to to unearth continental talent...and when he does it's like pulling teeth trying to get him to commit.

He has a curious record when it comes to the non-UK market. Certainly Arteta, Pienaar and Fellaini were astute moves, but Bily, Van Der Meyde, Drenthe, Kroldrup, Silva et al were essentially poor decisions in which we lost money. However, the likes of Gueye, Vellios, Junior and Mirallas suggest we do indeed have some form of mandated european scouting network. Or the most recent Football manager updates.

We picked up Junior from an English club, like.

good points.. I think many managers have a similar record when it comes to foreign players... except for Pardew who has made some shrewd signings in Cabaye, tiote, cisse... the sad thing is that Everton could have signed Ba...

Five or six years ago who would have thought that Belgium was going to be producing so many talented youngsters.
Is it impossible that the Scottish youth system has started to bring talented youngsters through.

EVERTON have become the first club in the world to sign up a computer game to look for the next footballing superstar.

The Premiership side have done a deal with the makers of the bestselling video game Football Manager to get an early look at their database of 370,000 players worldwide.

It cuts out the first stage of scouting for players - waiting for feedback from the club's network of talent spotters.

Anyone know if this is still happening? Or what sort of impact it has had over the last three and a half years? The agreement was post-Fellaini but were players like Vellios, Gueye and Coleman flagged up by the data base?

It's because his scouting network is pretty much confined to his brother and Weir. It's all very parochial and inward looking.

I bet someone's getting a proper *drink* at the expense of the Everton Football Club Ltd in the process.

'kin ell is there nothing you won't twist into something seedy and underhanded in order to slate him or the board?

It's hardly surprising is it. Money is very tight at Everton, so Moyes has to assess the risk of bringing in players that don't settle, either at the club or in English football. We can't afford to waste millions on players that don't contribute.

Sure Moyes has been burnt with the likes of Koldrup and Bily so it's not that surprising that he's sticking mainly to players that have shown they can do it in British football, or that clearly have the attributes to succeed, ala Fellaini and Heitinga.
