Moyes' Derby Record

A good manager can send his players onto the pitch feeling ten foot tall and invincible. Clough and Ferguson are reknowned for it.

Moyes does the opposite when the pressure tells IMO. I sincerely hope he proves me wrong in a big, big way. Hopefully we've spent most of this week talking about us, not how to stop them.

That's why i'm so f*cking frustrated with the man, gearing the players up and making them feel up for a derby is his job. Half time at Wembley he should've been shouting "f*cking finish this job off they're sh*te, you've got the better of these and the 50'000 fans outside watching us know it too" whereas he was clearly telling us to sit back and defend a jammy lead. F*cking Fellaini afterward even came out and said we had no impotus to finish the job off.

Whereas Dalglish is the opposite dressing room nailed it into them how important the game was, it was painfully familiar and obvious to anyone who watched it that second half.

Do you think Moyes just sat there quietly twiddling his thumbs whilst the players watched Corry or something?
Probably not, he probably thought they would come at them with a much higher intensity and our best bet would be to defend that and then attack once the storm had subsided.. I say this because that is what happened and we were back on the up and in control until Distin hit a shocking miss hit and let them back in the game, then our players buckled at the back.
Moyes AND the players lost that game, that you refuse to accept it was anyone other than Moyes, and then accuse me of turning a blind eye when it comes to blaming everyone involved is amusing though.

Have to agree with some of this.... Ive seen it many a time unfortunately and its happening right now. People and teams have taken notice of how well we have started the season and not a day went by when someone wasn't mentioning Everton. That was a couple of weeks ago and since then we have started wobbling against the likes of Wigan and a QPR side still winless.

When attention is brought upon our club, Moyes can't seem to keep a grip. Makes me laugh when he keeps getting linked to Man Utd who are constantly in the lime light.

I really, really don't see a job like that ever happening for Moyes either. This weakening under pressure thing being put to bed would improve his chances though.

Completely the wrong brand of football for United, he plays to try to get 3 points or if not 1 instead of win by how many?
May change if he had the personnel mind you, we simply don't know until he's given a job with resources actually how good a manager he could be.

I think you're right on this analysis ..... unfortunately it was/is and always will be completely wrong.

"Best form of defence being ......." (well you know the rest)

IMO if that was his attitide against, say, 13 of the sides in this league we'd know about it. He doesn't need 'resources' to prove it one way or the other.

Losing 3 times against such a poor Liverpool side last year was tough to take but if we win on Sunday then all of the previous defeats won't matter anymore (not nearly as much anyway). The phrase 'You're only as good as your last result' is more relevant to derby games than any other.

Blackpool

The club with the least resources by quite a ridiculous margin managed to compete and fell a inch short in the long run. Plenty of dodgy decisions going against them too if I remember right. An extra point for Holloway and I'd rate that achievement at least as high as anything Moyles has ever done.

A defence first or even a balanced appraoch would have seen them rock bottom by a good few points IMO

Had roughly the same resources as Moyes when he took over I reckon except Blackpool were on a high. If Everton were better it wasn't a massive amount so. Moyes didn't go for broke every game but instead quietly went about accumulating points as best he could and slowly built the team we have now.
and you have no idea how many points he would of got with a different approach to be fair.

Sorry, not sure what your getting at.

You posted something along the lines of "maybe he's never had the resources to be the type of manager who likes to put a lot of goals past sides.

I was replying that against 13 sides in this league he could have shown that side of himself if he was that type of manager. If it was a part of his character we'd have seen it.

Holloway took over the side favourites for the drop from the championship and took them to within a couple of points of a second season in the PL. His max wage for top players was 10k. p.w. Most of our squad willhave been on more than that 10yrs ago when Moyes took over.

There's no way you can reasonably compare the respective resources of the clubs.
