I don't understand why some of you are obsessed with finding a holding, stationary, boring #6. We don't need an N'Zonzi, a Carvalho, we don't need any of them. Zakaria is more of a box to box player, too. If he comes, Marco will play his 4-2-3-1 just lke he said he would depending on his personnel and those 2 DM will move forward aggressively in the counter and not be players to protect the back line. He only played that way at Sporting because he had Carvalho.

A dedicated DM is pretty necessary if the manager wants to play such a high line and an attacking system. Otherwise you're going to get gashed on the counter leaving the two backs hanging

Well, he doesn't play a high line and doesn't press high usually, so that's not an issue.

And why would a high press necessitate a dedicated DM? I don't recall Jupp Heynckes using one. El Loco maybe, but who the heck is playing his 3-3-3-1 system these days? Klopp and the gegenpressing crowds definitely don't use one.

You really want to have the defense of a current day Klopp team?

How can people rate Schneiderlin over Gueye? Gueye has won more tackles than Kante since joining us (ranked 2nd last season and 1st in 16/17) and his energy levels are much more superior to Schneiderlin's. The problem is that he needs a ball playing midfielder beside him. Someone that you can trust with your life to keep possession of the ball in tight situations or bring the ball out from the back. Schneiderlin is a bit of a 'Jack of all trades' that doesn't excel in any, unfortunately.

Are people actually doing that? Can't be bothered to read back. Gana is streets ahead of Morgan. In fact I thought he looked much better than usual going forward against Blackburn. Found good balls to feet in front of him, pinged a few out wide, even carried the ball himself a few times.

He literally is one of the first names on the teamsheet. Morgan can do one.

What we 'need' is a star DM.

In this system he has to take the ball off the defence and be able to dictate the play as well as have excellent positional sense + off the ball movement.

Thats before we look at the defensive qualities. If we had that player then we could have 2 others further advanced and play on the front foot.

Or we play Gana and Davies and have them charging around tackling everything then pass to the wide forwards but thats quite sluggish.
