Missed opportunity

It’s funny one of my best mates is a Rovers ST holder. About once or twice a year, he’ll give me a spare ticket to go with him. About 2 and a half years ago, I asked him if there was anyone decent at rovers. He said Everton should be all over Wharton as in his opinion, not only would he be a really good PL player, he could potentially be an England international. Ironically he didn’t rate Harvey Elliot when he was on loan there, he also spoke highly of Jan Paul van Hecke who now doing the business for Brighton and Holland, while he was there.

Just read an interview with Neil Warnock who said that he recommended Adam Wharton to Eveton under Sean Dyche before he left Blackburn Rovers for Palace.

Wonder why we didn't move for him. Appreciate at that time we were financially hamstrung but we were making some signings and he only went to Palace in Feb 2024 for £18 million.

Did we go for someone else or did Dyche simply not fancy him?
It'll have been the money. We didn't have the upfront cash for a signing like that when Wharton moved. It's a real shame because he looks a player.

Wasn't cash flow a massive problem when he was bought. I'd guess it was the same reason we didn't pursue Gyokores despite being heavily linked. Blackburn like Coventry likely wanted a fee upfront that we couldn't pay.

I wouldn’t stress, I guess we have missed out on loads of good players before now but also I would also guess that we have stolen different signings from other clubs that can be a downer for them.

I was reading about how Kante’s agent was driving round different clubs asking for someone to give him a chance as he was playing division two footie in France I think it was until Lesciter did.

Same with plenty of others too, Kudus, Minteh etc.

Can anyone put together a potential 11 we would have had this season had Dyche remained in charge and been allowed to do the rebuild. Best 11 wins a prize (please presume we stayed up).
