Watching numerous pundits attempting to disect this style/results dichotomy in football. Heard it numerous times now that how can 'teams like Everton' expect to compete with the 'Top 6' due to the shortfall in spending.

What I would consider to the 'standard' Everton team cost roughly £230m. The Liverpool team that pumped Roma 5-2 the other week cost roughly £250m.

Would it be fair to assume that perhaps the shortfall has been in the coaching, scouting and tactical areas of the game rather than our inability to compete financially?

Sick and tired of this money argument clouding the actual realities of the modern game.

The pundits consistently fail to address just how much money we spunked up the curtains over the past 2 years and how this is the main reason behind the animosity and frustration at the moment.

Plucky old Everton had money for a year - and we flumped it up :(

Spurs did it with the Bale money, the RS did it with the Suarez money.

It happens mate, it`s how you recover from it that matters.

..the Reds wasted lots of money before turning a corner. Man City wasted lots of money befor getting it right. Chelsea spent lots and eventually won things.

It’s not how much you spend, it’s how you spend it. The most important appointment will be having the person with the right vision to make it happen for us.

It’s not as simple as current squad cost though. Most of the top six have been up there for years. They were big spending when big spending was say the 3.75 million Man U payed for Roy Keane.. You get to the top of the pile, it breeds success. The best youth players want to come. The annual spend becomes maintenance.

Anyone trying to break into that group A) Has more players to buy & B) Has to pay over the odds for them.

City struggled at the start and still not got that Champions League. Chelsea not so much i guess because Roman went all ou but they still didn't get it all at once.

Liverpool bounced back from Suarez. Spurs bounced back from Bale.

The common denominator between all those teams is that the business side of things off the pitch is top class. And the people making the overall decision for the footballing side of things is either the same or top class as well.

Look at how Arsenal have already put in this new structure for life after Wenger.

We've had Kenwright and Elstone for years and still have them. Failure after failure, consistent mediocrity from shirt sponsorship to financially backing a manager and stadium moves.

I will for ever remember Moyes saying that the club's first aim going into any season is to avoid relegation.

And this year no big name to sell to fund it all

Expect many more martinas this summer to plug the gaps

We bought mostly older slow players to an already old intensity lacking squad. Liverpool bought young quick fast high intensity players for the same money

During the decline of Martinez. Klopp was available having just resign from Dortmund.
As usual, we hold onto a proven failure of a manager far too long just for the sake of appearing as a nice club that does not sack a manager easily and miss the golden opportunity to get Klopp. This, IMO, is the biggest missed chance of a lifetime. 250m given to Klopp and a champions league final. God knows how much he can achieve with us with Moshiri backing.
The same is happening to us now. Trying to make ourselves look like a proper sentimental club by not sacking a dinasour manager who had no clue how to improve our team. With the World Cup ending in July, plenty of good managers will be available. Let’s not miss the good chance again. Being nice by not sacking can do one as far as I’m concern.
