Listening to Big Nev's book on Audible (narrated by the legend himself) and it is an incredible read (or listen). Some of the stuff he says is a great insight into the mental aspect of sport, but also his level of analysis of the smallest details while playing... Probably why he is one of the best goalkeepers of all time.

Makes me wonder if he's ever been approached by a professional club as a player liaison officer or why he's not been approached by the premiere league.

Lastly, @davek, what do you make of his view that Martinez was full of crap with his delusional positivity and refusal to accept his failings?

Did he bollocks. He gave Roberto full suport when his job was under threat.

"People aren't idiots. Managers need help. They need second opinions.

Robertson Martinez was a nightmare in this regard at Everton. We'd lose 3-0 and he said we'd played really well. That we'd kept the ball really well. It was a pile of [Poor language removed], to be honest. There's a key difference between positivity and pie in the sky stuff and that difference is credibility.

If you don't try and educate yourself on knowledge gaps, you lose credibility on a topic. In this scenario, that lack of credibility leads to the crowd losing faith. This quickly filters down to the players, because you become worried that the manager isn't being honest with you or the supporters."

"This opinion, in this moment, is phenomenal"

Nev was an unbelievable player, of that there is positively no doubt. He is also very opinionated and has some interesting views.

The problem is, every time he says anything really insightful, he usually backs it up with a load of weird sh*e after it and undermines the good points he made earlier. Similar to Martinez in many ways.

There's a few reasons he never got any big managerial jobs after caretaking Wales for a game, and it's not just because he's honest and tells it how it is. So are lots of people, including Carlo Ancelotti.

He has always been a bit of a wild card and you just don't know what he's going to say or do next. Probably one of the reasons he was so good at what he did. But also, 100% of the reason why he isnt involved in the game more regularly, even as a pundit.

He'd never have any interest in working with a club or football organisation in a professional capacity even if they would put up with him. He's an individualist (something I really respect him for) and is happy to fly solo rather than change to suit others who don't like him for who/what he is. Don't agree with everything he's ever said but he's always worth listening too and for me is our greatest legend ever, least of modern times.

Bonus points for being the one successful ex-player we have who isn't up Kenwright's arse like an itch. He's winner (with a capital W) and he has no time for people who embrace mediocrity, or in Billy's case are phony, egotistical w***ers.

You said he said he was "full of crap" and "deluded". I dont see those words in that transcript.

Regardless of that, he changed his tune:

“Roberto is definitely the man to lead Everton and he’s the best manager we’ve had since Howard Kendall. He will win something for us."

Trust you to post something from a blacklisted web site...no wonder you've got no credibility Dave; now I understand the Martinez love.
