Midfield.......

Go for Joaquín, Arshavin & Fernandes (loan) plus some squad addition in the midfield.

Joaquín and Arshavin should be the most likely, we have the best chance of signing due to there club financial position and the player wishes.

The extra midfielder is likely a replacement of our Carsley, I know it won't happen but I still recommend Jamie O'Hara who I feel is an upgrade version of Carsley with youth on his side.

At least we can say this. Nev & cars won't be in the same midfield again thats for sure. I'm waiting and very confident Moyes has a a-list that most people haven't a clue about yet. Which is just peachy with me. Who was talking about Diarra before yesterday? Thats what I thought. I will miss Cars but I think younger quicker stock will prove benificial.
Never say never maybe Brum will swoop for Phil.

There is still Stuart Downing to think about. If anyone has paid attention to him during the past 12 months you would have to agree that he's really moved up a level. He's way better than the team he plays for. In addition, he's a left-footed midfielder/winger which, to my mind, is always superior to having a right-footed man chucked to the left. I could easily imagine him forming an excellent partnership with Yak (being quite an accurate passer of the ball, speedy and able to beat people) The cost might be slightly high due to nationality, but at least we know he's used to the premier league football.

The newspapers say Liverpool are considering a £12m bid if their sordid attempt at Barry ends in tears. Now, I wouldn't value him at such a price, and hope that the story is just paper talk. But I would expect to pay something in the region of £8-9m for the lad.

Tell me I'm deluded if you want, but the lad is class. :D

Downing is a good player not worth the reported 10 million Boro want.

I'd pay 6-7 but then again you pay more for English player's.

Your deluded:lol: no I agree he would be a good signing but if the fat waiter joins the bidding we could be priced out although a red I know reckons there is a rumour Rafael only has 10 million and any cash he raises by selling so who knows?.

There's no way fat boy would pay £12m for Downing. He's after Barry and will get him. And if not Barry, I expect him to enter the European market, which seems to be his preference. On your second point, I've heard similar things. Liverpool have to sell in order to buy. Unless they sell their dross quickly, which they will not, then they are going to be playing the waiting game.

IT would be great if they cant get rid of the players as lets face it these guys are on top wages a lot more than their worth ,so its possible that other clubs will fail when it comes down to the wages issue.Like Van de mede they might decide to see out their contract lets hope so(y)

Plus, everyone knows that the top 4 sell at a premium. At one time there were still clubs like Newcastle and West Ham willing to pay that, and the silly wages. Now, though, clubs seem a little bit more savvy with the housekeeping. Newcastle and West Ham, for example, need to cut their wage bills. Villa, with O'Neil at the helm, are too clever to pay over the odds for players not good enough for a club that finish just a couple of places above them. Citeh are after top drawer stuff, and will enter the European market for that. Pompey are skint, Blackburn are skint. That leaves Sunderland as the only club openly seeking to spend big cash. And I can't see the Liverpool reserve team welcoming a move to there.

But rumour say RS is willing to pay 12m for him, do they have so much to waste again?

certainly a player with pace but don't he process the skill as well and most important consistent as well?

from what i can tell downing will be going to villa as a replacement for barry , who is going to the [Poor language removed].

I'd cry if Neville was first choice in midfield next seasom. In all honesty he should be a squad player and we should be looking to replace him but I can cope with him at right back aslong as the midfield is improved.

Cry? I'll be slashing me bloody wrists if Pip gets the midfield berth. Please don't even say this in jest.

Ive never seen this Alou Diarra, people must have far more exotic channels then me if they can catch live Bordeax games.

For me i am curseing the fact we didnt get Lassana Diarra in January he looks a top player, seems as if his head is easily turned though! If i had to pick players who i have seen play to come into the midfeild. They would be any combination of the following.

Fernandes
Lassana Diarra
Timoshuyik
Ramsey
SWP
Downing
Gonzalaz

I wouldnt mind Gera on a free, and my friends up north tell me this McDonald lad looks a promseing player, so i would see these as suplemenatary/consoladation signings.

I guess its all speculation, but for my money, Carsley was told that there will be serious compition in midfeild next season and he would have to fight for his place against young legs, this and the fact that there was a longer contract on the table closer to home elsewhere tells me that transfer planning for the midfield is well under way.

P.S. AVDM could always come good:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:
