A month before he starts training again then it will be another while before he gets his confidence back to go in full throttle for headed challenges. Not a good scenario for a central defender to have to face. He may be out for a couple of months at least.

It is funny the way things have worked out as there no doubt now that Mina and Zouma will soon be the first choice CB partnership and Keane may have a job on his hands getting back in. Hopefully he will make a full recovery with no mental scars.

While undoubtedly true, if things don't go well or his mental scars prove insurmountable you can stretch that indefinitely, however I do think that's painting a very bleak scenario.

Football is so competitive and can be a relatively short even if a massively well rewarded career, that your opportunity to make it only gives a very limited window, that being the case it's natural for players to drive themselves to get back asap even if not really ready.

If 3 to 4 weeks before he's back in (light) training is at all accurate, then 6 weeks seems a little more realistic than months.

While saying that you couldn't rule out a far more prolonged absence at all.

Shame he's picked up the injury just as he was starting to look like the £25mil player we paid for, probably won't get much of a look in the squad now unless Zouma or Mina get injured

If he keeps working and improving like he's done so far this season, I can see this finally making him a fullblown Everton player now. He's done really well, and seem a lot braver than last season. Im starting to think he might become a good player for us.

anyone concerned about where Ganas head may be for doing that to a teammate? Sure he feels bad today but will it be tough for him to get over mentally?
The incident was not so much the clash with Gana but the way he landed on a bone hard dry pitch- many players yesterday play was held up for falling after a jump in a challenge on that pitch - the modern sprinklers are just a spray the water will not go down to soften it enough... Best Game Keen has had for us too hope he recovers well!

Sky sports panel yesterday we laughing like mad when a ref in the Scottish League Elgin City called the game off late when the referee inspected a corner of the pitch that he seemed far too hard to play on as with no rain gravel had risen to the surface- they were in bulk laughing.... accidents happen, but surely they could have watered that pitch better?......

Do they do basline neurocognitive testing for players?
Seems like in 2014 they introduced it as a recommendation, hopefully they have since tightened that up to be mandatory.
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/f...at-concussed-players-must-be-substituted.html
The Premier League have introduced a new set of rules to address the issue of concussion in football that include the specific stipulation that managers must now defer to the club team doctor in deciding whether a player stays on the pitch.
An additional tunnel doctor will also be mandatory at every Premier League fixture to assist and liaise with the team medics, while every player will also be encouraged to take a yearly neuro-psychological test to assess their “baseline” functioning.

..it’ll be like getting back on a bike. i’m sure that nothing will be taken to chance from a medical perspective, so he’ll be 100% when he gets the green light. I know the brain is a complicated bit of kit, but ultimately it’ll be similar to Coleman having to make his first tackle after his horrendous injury.
Head injury though. That's a bit different to a leg injury.
