Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Up to when I was 16 we lived in a road off Brodie Avenue. - the end nearest to Garston Park. When I was 16 we moved to live by Otterspool Prom not far from Liverpool Cricket Club. My Dad still lives lives there. So yes, I reckon that classes as Garston. However my Mum, who was a real life version of Hyacinth Bucket much preferred to call it Grassendale!
The posh end of Garston. Mind you everywhere in Garston was posh to us Speke lads.?

Cricket club opposite the Kingsman pub? My old stomping ground between 79 - 83 (on and off). Student accommodation (tower block down Beechwood Road). Was a Deck Cadet in the Merchant Navy so alternated between studying at Riversdale and going to sea. Absolutely loved it there. Nice area. Happy times.

Yes that's the one. We loved there in 1977 to the then new houses behind the wall near to where the Riversdale accommodation was. My Dad spent his whole working life in the Merchant Navy, ended up as a Captain.

Very, very close then. I served my apprenticeship then got out. Didn't enjoy being stuck on a tanker (Mobil) for half my life. Stayed in Liverpool for a while after that though. Still love the city. What was the Chinese chippy opposite the Kingsman called? Been racking my brains. Did a class spring roll. Great 'drunk' food.

True story. We went to Barbados in 1990. We went on one of the Jolly Roger trips and were queuing up to get our barbecued steaks, and after we'd given our order the Bajan captain said all right scouse. Turned out he done his marine training at Riversdale.?

Don't remember the Chinese but there were two Indians opposite from the 90s onwards. The Gulshan and Mad Harry's.

When I joined the merch in 79, I'd never been out of the country. First ship, joined in Singapore, loaded, first port Guam. Myself and another cadet decided to walk to find some waterfall not realising the distance, a car stopped to offer a lift. The driver turned out to be a missionary who literally lived two minutes away from me in my wee NI town. It took me ages to realise that the world wasn't filled with people from the north coast of Ireland. 16 and green as grass!

Well had to rearrange my day a bit but got my hair cut eventually. Also went to see the second Fisherman's Friend movie and enjoyed it just as much as the first. Mind you I'm probably a bit biased as I'm in love with Cornwall and the Cornish people too tbf.

Having another barbie tonight. Weather is glorious. Will probably be my last of the year as flying out tomorrow and then upto Liverpool for about 10 days when I get back. You never know though, we often get nice weather down here in October.

Still need to sort out my hotel for the Liverpool trip but apart from that it's just packing to do.

Hopefully a decent result tonight will send me on my way happy. Leeds have started well so a draw would be OK for me.

It's called Ko Sang now but don't think it's always been that. Although last time I was in Liverpool I did have a very delightful chop suey roll from there! Dad was on Esso supertankers for a while. He did most things apart from passenger ships! His last job was with Maersk on container ships.

Have a great holiday if you don't post anything later. Enjoy yourself x

Not much craic on tankers, like. Either in and out of port sharpish on product carriers or tied up to a buoy miles out to sea. One one supertanker, I got ashore once in 4 months. If you don't click with your watchmates, it's a long lonely time. I keep thinking the Chinese was something like Jimmy's or some other first name but it's over 40 years ago so could be completely wrong.

Morning folks.

Bright and cool here today, not that I can tell as I’ll be cooped up in work all day. Fear not, as I’m off for a couple of days from tomorrow :celebrate:

Had a long chat with my younger brother last night. As I’ve mentioned in here before, he suffers pretty badly with anxiety and other MH issues and struggles getting out and in crowds. Cutting weed out has helped him loads and he managed to take me out for a meal on my b’day a few weeks back.

He’s been out a few times since with some friends and we’re planning an evening trip into town for a couple of drinks and a meal in the next few weeks.

His plan is to build himself up so me and him can head to a couple of concerts next year.

One step at a time and all of that, but I’m genuinely made up for him, I could see how much his problems were eating him up in the past and felt pretty powerless about it all, so it feels good to actually see him on the up :)
Well done you ,as you know he will need all your help ,the good thing is he has it . Keep up the good work and as you know we will need photos.
