Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Morning everyone,

You are all so busy , Blue buying cars , Val packing up , T being played up by Daisy , Anj being a medic , Dunc doing his stint in wages and accounts and Fred.....errrr drinking G&Ts lol .

So yet another storm on its way , lovely. Hopefully the boiler has finally been fixed - new circuit board fitted this time , would have been cheaper to replace the whole thing - but it doesn't seem to recognise the pre set timings, may have to re programmed I suppose.

You nay remember that I planted a new tropical garden last year both bananas etc.

Anyway before the winter I spent hours wrapping them and protecting them. Yesterday's storm destroyed all the protection and allowed me to see how they were doing.......and there was nothing left !!! May have to rethink the tropical look in Northern England.

Table tennis match tonight.

Unremittingly bad news re war in Sudan , Gaza and Ukraine. I think @Barnfred 55 is right , it may be best not to watch the news and ignorance is bliss.

Just finished watching Bates v Post Office. My god what a story and so well told / acted. I was surprised to see my best mates brother in law Ian Hart ( massive Evertonian) playing Bob the independent investigator .

I remember meeting him when he got his acting break playing a young John Lennon in Backbeat , where the hell have all those years gone?

Morning all. Sorry to hear your tropical garden is no more @jazzy, it’s disheartening when you have invested so much - both time and money but obviously not quite warm enough in the NW well not yet anyway, with global warming give it a few years and who knows?
@Terrarian Daisy sounds so adorable, hope you have managed to get out for decent walk.
Random thought - watched Grantchester on Sunday which if you aren’t aware is set in Cambridgeshire. The accents of the locals really grate on my nerves. Why do television producers think that anyone from East Anglia would have a West Country accent?

So sad to hear about your garden ,I used to be crazy about gardening as an escape from a bad marriage and considered opening ours to the public but the other half said no ,she did say no to almost everything except money though.
I got to know a guy who contributed to gardening weekly who was married to a scouser he said the climate in Liverpool was sub tropical ! I suppose compared to Lancaster it might have seemed that way .
Maybe the way forward would be a walled garden area to offer much more protection as they might reshoot in the spring , a lot of work with footings and the rest so it depends how much you want it .

How cruel Jazzy. I'll have you know my life does not revolve around G&Ts. There's also red wine, and Cornish beers, and cider, and summer cocktails.

So sorry to hear about your jungle garden too mate. I know how much time, effort and cost you put into it. Seems like last week when you were sending pics through to me.

C'est la vie!

The structure ( path and raised bed ) is still there obviously. The palm trees seem fine but the bananas and some other plants have just disappeared!

As blue said they might just shoot again in spring but to be honest I'm not holding my breath!
 

Good morning all on the overcast day here in Hyvinkää . I hope all are well and had a better night than it appears our @peteblue had ,my heart goes out to you and your lovely wife .
Just for @jazzy the car we bought was in a garage 150 miles away but the same dealership as one we have nearby ,they willingly bring it down as long as you pay a deposit -then buy upon test driving it -the thing is that they use a different bank to us and it can take a couple of days to transfer .In this day and age there is no explanation for that ! So they won't let the car leave the lot until our money has cleared therefore we are not sure when it will get down here . We only like to travel when we need to so are hoping it is there in the morning ,we cannot disrupt our system !

Once again just for @jazzy ,it seems there might be a glimmer of hope ,this is from Mr Google about a banana :-
When it's time to harvest, the plants stem (or technically called it's stool) is cut down. An off shoot emerges from the bottom and this is called a sucker. A new plant emerges from this sucker and it will produce a new bunch of bananas usually within 12 to 18 months depending on the climate.
