Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

I think you are right. None of us like to think we are getting older but it is a fact of life. In my head I'm still nineteen. And with ageing comes all the things you mention. It is still rubbish though @peteblue . Hope your friend in hospital recovers well.
Having said that growing older is a privilege that many never experience so we should experience and we should be thankful we can experience it - wrinkles, creaky knees, dodgy backs and all.

Of course you are right. In speaking with my mate whose wife has the Alzheimer’s we both agreed, just take one day at a time, remember the past and then see what happens each day……

Sadly mate it’s not just the year but the fact that we are getting older too, and the people we love and associate with are getting older with us. Back in March I had a guy from our running club pushing me all the way at the end of a10k race, shouting at me saying he was catching me in a bit of fun , but I beat him by 1 sec . I learnt the other day that he’d died suddenly, he was about 10 years younger than me ☹️. News on cancers, serious illnesses is sadly becoming more common, if it’s our good fortune to avoid such things we need to be thankful and make the most of things , and of course where we can help those less fortunate.
The thing is they are curing so many problems that used to kill , now it seems they are the same few illnesses killing us all . Covid being the main one recently.

Well Storm Debi has arrived already and it is a howling gale with heavy rain. Rather than drive in the dark in that, I think I will get the train from Newry into Belfast.

Hope you lot manage to dodge it over there.
Bit blowy overnight but fine now.

How did everything go yesterday mate? Did you say it was a family funeral?

At least he's better off where he is than going to the wrong owners Jazz.

Who vets prospective owners. Is that down to Mrs J too?
Yes but not her alone.

They literally get hundreds of applicants many from nutcases and time wasters.

The rescue set criteria for certain dogs eg no other pets and then when you read the application they have 2 cats.

They ask for photos of the garden to make sure the dog can't escape and when they deliver find that the applicant has sent in photos of someone else's garden.

People turn up.and say oh I thought she wouldnt be as dark as that.

If the team get even a hint that the person isn't 100% committed to the dog they say no.

And of course there are some wonderful applicants and new homes.

The amount of time she spends looking at applications and on the phone talking to applicants is incredible, at least 5 hours a day in addition to her fund raising at the shop.

Hell of a responsibility Jazz. She's doing a fantastic service though. You must be really proud of her.
