Everton vs. Tottenham Hotspur; 29/08/15
White Hart Lane

We kicked off at the Lane without kicking off, the first 20 minutes like watching two teenagers on a first date, tentative and trying to get a feel of the other but without any kind of fireworks. Everton finger her lad xx.
First real chance of the game fell to us in the 17th minute where Tom Cleverly harried Walker off the ball at the edge of the box and had a pop from distance. Decent strike and made Lloris make the first save of the game out for a corner.
We know how Everton and corners go so no more needs to be said about that.

Come the 23rd minute, Spurs break quickly and release Kane in acres of space one on one with Howard. Howard makes a great save with his left foot, score stays at 0-0. Well in Howard.
Kane probably marginally offside, more offside than Rom the other week but nothing came from it so no biggie.

This is the first of a deluge of chances as four minutes later Howard again makes a great save with his foot where it was easier to score, keeping us in the game with a series of crucial saves.
Bentaleb then curled one towards the bottom corner forcing Tim to parry to Oviedo, before tipping Alderweireld’s header over from a Spurs corner. Tim well and truly worth his wages today with this performance as we repel the Spurs pressure.

In the 37th minute Barry celebrates his 700th Premier League game with a nod to the previous 699 games and his record as the most booked player in its history by picking up a caution for a professional foul, while a few minutes later Cleverly was cleaned out by Dier, with his foot sent to Kenya and his knee to Canada. Scissoring tackle that got all the ball with the leading leg before wiping out Tom’s leg/ankle with the trailing leg.
No foul called. Tough luck for Tom as he is stretchered off, Mirallas on to replace. No news yet but reportedly serious.

End of the First Half, score remains 0-0:

The first incident of real note was in the 54th minute, where Dembele did his ankle somehow all by himself. Replaced by Dele Alli.

The Everton defence then undertake a case of the shakes as reminiscent of last season, the waves parting for Mason as he picks up the ball somehow in space at the edge of the box, Howard saves well down to his right and preserves his and our clean sheet.
Barry then loses the ball in a bad area but the shot from a tight angle is muffed and Howard collects at the near post easily.

Penalty shout for Tottenham as the ball drops to Alli in the box, Stones slides in and Alli flops under little to no contact at all, endearing himself to Everton fans all over. Should have picked up a yellow for the dive.

72nd minute and Kone has our best chance of the night, lovely cross curled in by Oviedo and lands narrowly wide of the far post from Kone’s flick header, inches from nestling into that bottom corner.

Three minutes later we go up the other end and England boy wonder Kane, goalless so far this season has it in the back of the net but is called offside. A luckless night for the Spurs man.

Nothing else hugely significant occurs in the remainder of the game and it finishes as a drab and dull 0-0.
Howard was the Man of the Match saving us a point with his display in goal, while we struggled to create up the other end.

A hard fought point I’ll happily take.

Del must have been sitting there for 83 minutes thinking...I changed the game on Wedneday, single-handedly won us the game, and yet I still don't get a starting position!

Useless bringing him on late. Should have brought him on instead of Naisy and added a new dimension to the game early on with some width and super crosses.

Shame - 3 points could have been points easily with some intelligent subs earlier on.

Naismith changed the game mate.
