Roberto Martinez has held talks with referees’ chief Mike Riley to outline his anger at recent decisions that he feels have cost Everton dearly.

Everton’s manager is not someone who will criticise referees but he has felt the need to speak with Riley, the Head of the Professional Game Match Officials, twice in recent weeks.

Martinez believes Andre Marriner made a number of errors at Manchester City on December 6 when Everton lost 1-0 and he was furious with an incident in the FA Cup replay at West Ham last week when Neil Swarbrick denied Kevin Mirallas what looked a clear penalty.

I suppose we were all screaming out for Martinez to make at least some representations to Mike Riley but will it change anything ?

Yes thought the Stones call was just as valid but the way they handled the Mirallas call was just plain weird. It was either a penalty, a dive or nothing - certainly not a free kick yards outside the box.

The Man City game was a total mare by the officials though.

Hate blaming referees but we've copped it even more than usual this season imo
The weight of some decisions goes mostly unnoticed because it's forgotten about come the next weekend
Most people say it 'weighs up over the course of the season' but it doesn't
There is so much at stake and it all comes down to the decision of an often incompetent man in the middle
But what's worse is what can you do about it... nothing.
