And yet, we could send the Curiosity Rover to Mars 6 times for the price of the Olympics.

It is all about perspective. Even if we put every penny into humanitarian causes there would still be suffering in the world. Instead, we have a budget for projects that will eventually effect the majority of people on the planet in one way or another.

Exactly. Space exploration and exploitation of resources needs to be heavily invested in. There's money in them there planets...
