Some of you lot need to give your heads a wobble. Brands/Silva have had half a transfer window and you all want everything straight away. You’re like kids at Christmas. This is going to take a good while to sort, I hope the club and fans have patience as chopping and changing every 5 minutes is not sustainable.

The man is inheriting a mess.It will take a bit of time to sort it out.Im not expecting much from this season, but you never know.Perhaps we might be surprised! It's too early to be branding Marco Silva and Marcel Brands, as the antichrists yet though.
The problem I have is I think the manager system is far superior to the DOF system. As long as you have a good manager...

I like him tbh, doesn’t seem to be full of himself like the previous two managers. Can see what he’s trying to do with the system and style of play, if it clicks then I think he will do well here and hopefully will bring actual success to the club.

Like everything else, football evolves with the needs of the times , in both tactics and organisation. We no longer play the 2-3-5 formation for instance.
In actual fact the 'manager system ' is a relatively recent step, for most of footballs history a commitee of board members would select the match day 11 and the trainer did the rest.
When a footballing dinosaur like Allardyce admits the necessity of a DoF you know things have irrevocably moved on.
With the increasing complexity of dealing with ever more powerful players and their agents , negotiating contract renewals and transfers all within a long term budget, it is easy to see the need for a DoF to allow the manager to manage the first team.
When you add in the need to oversee the many levels of youth teams and their coaches and ancillary staff, and to do it in such a way that these young players can progress as seamlessly as possible to the first team squad , the need for a person with an intimate knowledge of football becomes paramount.
There is also the fact that managers themselves don't hang around as long as they once did , let's face it if Ferguson had retired sooner even Moyes would not have been here for as long as he was.
Perhaps clubs are less patient also with managers who do not achieve success after a reasonable length of time as well.
It is therefore desirable that the club employs a DoF to provide continuity and help select a coach who is best suited to work with the current players.

The fact remains, the great club side have been led by managers in the main. The ones that haven’t been (primarily Chelsea) are bereft of an identity.

I like him.

He looked pissed with the defence today.
That's because he was pissed

He was was saying something very animated, and making some very irritated hand gestures to one of his assistants after that second goal today.

He’ll be having a hard word with Brands about getting in a CB in the next week I’m sure. I really hope he can sort the defence, as we are looking so much improved up front, now some passes are starting to stick.

It was actually good to watch for a while there today. Then I fell asleep second half (it was 3am here).

You make it sound like Man City does have a D of F.

Look, anyone that seriously thinks the manager can manage the modern day clubs staff just in terms of sheer size and scope is kidding themselves. There is a reason why most don't operate that way anyone. Why we'd want to go backwards is beyond me.

We'll see very few footballing autocrats, that's for sure. For this reason, I think Ferguson will come to be regarded as the greatest, for the unique way he imposed his will at almost every level of the club. Even when he wasn't making a decision, it was his men making the decisions. But he was an anomaly we just aren't going to see again, so we need to with it.

I admittedly know very little about Brands but, on the surface of it, himself and Silva look like it could be a good partnership. At the very least, it's nice to see some evidence of a direction and harmony at the club after the shitshows of the last few years
