That is exactly right Bill.

You guys can be so short sighted sometimes. Remember once he settled he was quite useful for us, and was the starting left-back for Portugal at the world-cup, remember? Age has caught up with him, he is taking longer to recover from injury, and is slower as a result, but to cast him off, in much the same way as you guys have cast of VDM is a little harsh IMO.

I'm not being short-sighted or castin him off as VDM. In fact as for VDM I still hope he has a few games left in him! My issue with him is that we have 2 left backs before Valente and you called him Great. Great is a word reserved for much better Evertonians than him

I've got no problem him getting a game if he's fit, but he's 34/35 now and his contract wont be renewed, maybe youth should be given a chance before him, dependant on the game that is.

that cross versus chelsea that mcfadden headed with ease in the fa cup i believe.

that cross was pure ambrosia.

if all the fullbacks at the club can take a leaf from valentes crossing and passing then hes worth having around, because to be fair he has seen it and done it all, uefa, CL and how many caps for portugal?

As for VDM, i tried to show some faith in him at the end of preseason and get some odds for him to come good before christmas, i picked that one wrong, a month in exile and no pay because he again broke club rules. time and tide wait for no man, vdm can sling his hook.

   - when ever theres an argument over valente - some one ALWAYS brings up that cross. IT WAS ONE CROSS, hibberts had good crosses, even neville but people dont constantly refer to them do they? valentes done one good cross in one match, the rest are ok, lescotts much better

lescotts much better?

hmmm, ok.

that one cross is the one that stands out, because it was so beautifully finished. valente is a seasoned campaigner and has provided goals before. to write him off so easily and thus implement the older and slower stubbs into the defence at the cost of lescott to LB is in my humble opinion, foolhardy.

Lescott at left back is much better than valente. He has more strength, pace, determination, better tackling, and lest be honest, hes better to watch runing up the wing, he passes players easily. Last time i remember valente playing was away somewhere when he ran infront of our own box into a striekr and then conceded a goal. I think it was aston villa away...nto sure though

I have no problems with Valente playing in games like these. As someone said earlier, if Bainesy is ever out for a long period of time it is useful to have him fit. Not least because it gives us the option of playing Lescott at CB or LB. Options are useful to have (y)

On current form, you're spot on.

But I'd rather we get all of our players some playing time when and where we can. You want to keep a sense of togetherness in the squad as well as good team spirit and nothing can ruin that quicker than a player who's not getting picked to play.

You want all of the players feeling like they're making a contribution to the campaign whether they play in the league or any of the three cup competitions. Nothing sucks more than going to training day in and day out knowing that there's a good chance, you're not even going to make the subs bench and have a chance to play.

Moyes is obviously aware of this so I believe you'll see some of the players who haven't played much as of late getting a game. I'm hoping that Valente, VDM, and Wessels all get to start this match.

They'll certainly want to impress and show the boss that they're worthy of more playing time.

So, my lineup would be:

......................Wessels......................

Jagielka.....Yobo......Stubbs........Valente

Arteta.......Carsley.......Cahill...........VDM

...........McFadden..........Anichebe.........

Subs:

Turner (don't know if he's out on loan or not)
Lescott
Osman
Yakubu
Jutkiewicz

(if you get a few more subs for cup games..then Pienaar & Vidarrson as well)

Id start with the same team that beat Derby, keep a settled side and the confidence going.

If we win then were in the quarter finals, furthest weve been in a cup competition under Moyes.

i think yakubu will play, because irvine was saying how the luton match is a chance to get a bundle of goals for himself.

Wel Alan Irvine says we shouldnt underestimate them, so i think he will put out a very strong team...

He also said hes not sure wether to rest Cahill for a match,, or play him to get his fitness up.

I think he will start yakubu and anichebe again.
