Lukaku to Spurs

Link up play, hold up play and maybe a bit more aerial presence is all he needs to add to his game to be the complete centre forward. Would deffo have him for around 20 mil.

I keep hearing he is only 20 years of age, and yet he has the work rate of a 40 year old.
His work rate wont get any better as he gets older.

I don't buy into this. If a striker runs his socks off he gets lambasted for not being in the right place or hugging the wing too much. You try running like James Vaughan for 90 minutes with Lukaku's frame. It's impossible.

People used to say Fellaini didn't look arsed but then he'd top our statistics every week for most miles ran. It's highly subjective and often your perception of a player's attitude can warp what is actually going on. I have no doubt he does what Bobby tells him to do to the extent his body allows.

The guy has scored 15 league goals while apparently "not playing well"

Imagine how good he'll be when he does play well

...amazing that we've had no other out-and-out Centre Forward this season to give him a break. That's quite a pressure on a single player, regardless of his age. I can't think of another club who had such limitations in arguably the most significant position on the pitch. I really this could've made the difference in us getting 4th.

People question his motivation and I agree at times he does seem lethargic (can't blame him when he's been our only striker) but yesterday after he scored waving his hand to try and get the crowd going just show his desire. He couldn't give a damn about the other side he just wants to score goals and win games and that's what he does.

every paper I read (yes I know .. paper talk) suggest that Chelsea will happily do a swop with the Spuds for Paulinho. That rumour's not going away any time soon

Lukaku, as others have alluded to, has been made to look worse than he is due to a few things:

1) NO competition. We've been very unlucky here as Kone got a freak injury and basically hasn't featured all season. And then Traore, who most were pretty excited about signing, played 45 minutes and got injured for the rest of the season too.
2) As a consequence of 1, he's had to play 90 minutes every single game. He's 20. He has never done that and rightfully has looked knackered. On top of that he weighs about 3.5 tons, and hasn't fully grown into a Distin-esque hunk who can control his gargantuan body.
3) He is 20. 20. Out of the top 20 PL goalscorers, he is the youngest. The next youngest is 23 and that man is Eden Hazard. The next are 24 (Sturridge and Jay Rodriguez). In the respective season at Rom's age, Sturridge scored 0 goals in 13 PL appearances.

I want us to throw everything at him. He is a good player, and will become a great one. On top of that he is a physical marvel that can give us something few else can.

And he has a great attitude. Watches performances of fellow strikers every night to learn from them!

He also watches every single Premier League game for similar reasons, if I recall correctly.

Lukaku reveals Premier League obsession
24 September 2013

Everton striker Romelu Lukaku has revealed that he watches every second of every Premier League match in a bid to improve his game.

The 20-year-old Belgium international - who is on a season-long loan from Chelsea - came off the bench to score the winner in Everton's 3-2 Premier League victory at West Ham on Saturday.

It was a terrific way for Lukaku to make his Everton debut, as the forward, who scored 17 Premier League goals on loan for West Ham last season, helped keep the club's unbeaten league record alive.

Lukaku, who has previously told of how he speaks six different languages, says he intently watches every Premier League match and studies the movements of other players in a bid to better himself.

He told Metro: "It's true that I watch every single game in the league - 90 minutes.

"I take my time to study and to learn other strikers' movements and to learn about other defenders. I take my time.

"Really I want to be one of the best in this league so you can only learn from the best by watching the best.

"After training I go home and record every game. I have a satellite and I just watch the games."

Lukaku says he wants to be one of the best players the world has ever seen, and that his loan spell is all about taking his game to the next level.

"My aim is to go down as one of the greatest," he added.

"That’s why I'm at Everton. I'm here to help the team, the team is here to help me.

"Everton were that step I needed. As a team they are always close to the top four and get to cup finals. That was really interesting for me."
