That being said, it was all downhill for Wayne really at that point whereas Lukaku looks like he's only going to get better

Very tough question because you don't know how good Lukaku is going be, although there's lots of positive signs that he'll maintain this impressive return of goals

I've voted rooney out of sentimental reasons.

I believe lukaku is going to be world class in his prime, but a young rooney for everton is exciting just seeing him on the pitch.

As Mikey said, we already know how good Rooney was from that point onwards. We can only speculate what will happen to Lukaku's career from this point.

So based on this, I'd have to go with Rooney.
Pretty sure he was one of the best forwards in world football up until a couple of years ago and all of a sudden you've got people re-writing history making out he's been garbage, not lived up to his potential etc.

If it was the Rooney of 18 before Man United nullified his excitement, i'd have gone with that. They obviously made him in to a well rounded player and he became hugely successful, but he had so much more ability than what he ended up producing in my opinion. I'll never forget a game against Bolton where he did everything but score. He's head and shoulders above Lukaku for ability but i'd rather have Lukaku than the more cautious Rooney that ended up playing for Man United.

9/10 and 11/12 Where his best seasons mate by miles 34 goals in each of those years.
