Live music - what have you seen?

One of the best concerts I've seen was a group called the Jazz Defektors in Manchester. They were in that film 'Absolute Beginners' as dancers. Superb soul/funk/fusion outfit.

First gig Grant Lee Buffalo at Feile 94 festival. Last gig Nada Surf in Toulouse on Tues night. Next ones lined up Elvis Costello and Teenage Fanclub. Rest of year I have Bandalos Chinos, Lee Fields, Elvis Costello, Luna, Music of Big Star, Jesus & Mary Chain

The idea of a list has me starting to fill out an excel now with venues and years. It’s a fair task trying to remember them all. Has already caused me to reach out to a few people I haven’t gotten in touch with for a long time as I take the trip down memory lane.

If you are trying to remember where and exactly when then setlist.fm is a great resource at least going back to the 90s. Can search group venue and city and you’ll find most concerts if the band is even relatively well known.

I started out with a 2 day festival in Tipperary in 94 and then a one dayer in Galway in 96. Then was interesting to see i only went to 4 more gigs in the 90s. In 99 I started working in HMV and from 2000 is when I really started to rack up shows. Half the below list I wasn’t really bothered to see at the time, but it’s cool to have memories of Buffalo Stance live or seeing everybody else going mad for Prodigy and Blur when I’d decided I hated them.

The full list is going to be fun to try compile now

Love Voivod - great to see them on here. Have seen them live a couple of times. Fine list there, mate.

Excellent. I saw them at the Barbican in London on their Ma Fleur tour and it was pretty much sonic perfection. Sound in that venue is unreal.

Wow!! And I agree. Was lucky to catch a show at the Barbican a few years ago--a set of jazz musicians from Total Refreshment Records--and I agree, that place had the most amazing acoustics I have ever experienced.

Starting with this years Glastonbury trip:

Texas
Foo Fighters
Fred Again..
Rick Astley
Jockstrap
Manic Street Preachers
Guns n Roses
Blondie
Candi Staton
Queens of the Stone Age

Manics (again)
The Chemical Brothers
Motörhead (several times)
The View
Primal Scream
Delays
Pendulum
LCD Soundsystem
Faithless
Basement Jaxx
Phats & Small ( lol )
Dave McCabe (when he was doing some solo acoustic gigs between Tramp Attack & The Zutons)
Tramp Attack
Lee Scratch Perry
In Flames
Iron Maiden
Killswitch Engage (supporting Maiden)

Forgot to add:

Electric Six (Around the time they had that Gay Bar tune out and were nothing shot of mental live)

And also saw The Allan Holdsworth Trio at the Wirral Guitar Festival many moons ago. His usual drummer was ill so he had former Frank Zappa session drummer Chad Wackerman step in for the night, which was a bit surreal.

Saw The Enemy last weekend headlining a festival in their hometown of Coventry. They were brilliant. Greatest hits set.

Bloody hell , I went to a Judas Priest gig once in Colston ( swear word now ) Hall in Bristol and it put me off rock music for life.
I'd like to send my thanks to them.
