Anyone ever had this
I'm thinking of getting it but it's expensive and I don't like the thought of someone messing with my eyes.
They take your natural lens out and replace it.
From what I can gather its like contact lenses but they are implanted into the eye.
If you've ever had it or know anyone who's had it I would appreciate your thoughts

I know by director had it done an age ago 5 grand an eye - he now wears glasses......hes a good age though

You'd only end up being able to see the Everton horror show in full detail. I'd swerve.

In all seriousness i know someone who had it, it was quite straightforward involving slicing the cornea off with a plane, inserting the lens then glueing the cornea back. All done under local, so you can see what happens.

They were happy with it, I had cramp in the balls of my feet from my toes curling up while they described it.

Hope it goes well

I know someone who did it and loves the results. His wife too. But I’m not willfully letting anyone put a knife to my eyes.

Not sure about lenses but I've had both eyes done for cataracts. They asked me if I wanted long distance or short distance, so it seems like lenses may have been involved? It took about 15 minutes (each eye, but three months apart). No pain, no discomfort. After the first one, I asked the nurse how long I should keep the dressing on for. I expected her to say 'two or three days'. She said 'a couple of hours'. Instantly brilliant. If you have sight problems, get it done. In my experience, there was absolutely no pain and no discomfort whatsoever.

I have had cataract surgery done myself. Cataracts are when the lens clouds over (think of egg white in a frying pan). Actually improved my eyesight no end. I have had glasses for over 50 years, now I only need them for reading.

If that's the procedure that's been recommended to you then, to all intents and purposes, it's the same as having a lens replaced in cataract surgery, so has much the same ( small ) risks associated with it, the most common one being infection. If you had a cataract, then it's a no brainer, because the difference will be massive and that small risk is, relatively, insignificant.

Having the procedure done "just" to correct your eyesight isn't so straightfoward to make decision on, and a lot depends on your lifestyle and how much difference not needing specs or contacts will make. Presumably, the fact you're asking about it, means you likely think it'd make a big difference to your life.

If you decide to go for it, find out as much as you can about your surgeon. If he or she has been successfully doing cataract operations for years, then that'd be a good thing. If they just do a few ops now and then for a private clinic, then I'd be more wary.

The other procedure done ( which is less common ) leaves your existing lens in place and putting another lens in front of it to correct your eyesight.

This sounds like what happened to the people I know. Lens replacement fixed vision and cataracts. Better for older individuals apparently, not sure what the shelf life is on the new lens. Did one eye one week, second eye next week. Back to work day following in each case.
