Robocop is a brilliant film. Too many people (ie my wife) take it on face value as a comic-book sci-fi film, but as with Starship Troopers, Verhoeven does satire so well.

I went to take my lad to that a few weeks back. Saw it had a thurs viewing of 4pm so thought wed grab the 4pm friday show..

Err... No. It ended on the thurs. Bollocks. Meant to be decent too...

One of my earliest ever memories of a film is the bloke that drives into the toxic waste in the first Robocop and then just explodes when he gets hit by the car. That's how I want to remember Robocop, so I think I'll swerve the new one.

as with Starship Troopers, Verhoeven does satire so well.

This is such an underrated film.

I think many people just assume that it's a generic, cliched Hollywood special effects feature when in fact a lot of the over the top dialogue is done on purpose. Fantastic satire as you say.

Also considering it was produced in 1997, the special effects remain truly fantastic. A great example of how blending animatronics and models (whilst using CGI only when necessary to augment the physical effects) is more effective and dates far better than copious amounts of computer generated imagery.
