Last Film You Watched

Talking of classic films, I mentioned a while ago that I’m trying to watch the top 100 films of an all time as designated by the American Film Industry. I’ve only got a handful to go. Cabaret has just popped up on iPlayer so another one knocked off.
That leaves me
Yankee Doodle Dandy
Mr Smith Goes To Washington
The Philadelphia Story
A Streetcar Named Desire
Who’s Afraid Of Virginia Wolf
One Flew Over The Cuckoo Nest.

A lot of the films on the list seem naff by today’s standards but are clearly on there for reasons of groundbreaking at the time.
Anything worth seeing?

Can't help but feel a list by American Film Industry might be slightly biased
Biased? Of course it's biased. And as others have noted, it's extremely skewed towards older films, many of which no longer resonate with viewers because the viewer is too young or the cultural impact of the movies is already baked in to the viewer's worldview/expectation. Still useful even if maybe needs to be refreshed from a different perspective.

Going from that list, Forrest Gump is the 7th best film since 1990 so that's certainly... something

I'm not sure Forrest Gump is Spielberg's 7th best movie, but also he's got a lot on this list and I've not counted how many are Spielberg movies. I think if you want a good, modern list just pick 3 or 4 great directors and watch all of their films. Throw in Spielberg, Cohens, and others you like (this is not my field, but Cuaron, Nolan, etc) and just make a list of films you like.

Sorry, I'm probably confusing myself. But how is Forrest Gump related to Speilberg? I know he is close with Zemekis, but I thought he had no involvement with the production?

That’s my bad, I legit thought that was a Spielberg, not sure why. Maybe confused by Hanks, but even then they’ve only worked together a handful of times.

So skip Forrest Gump and just watch actual Spielberg movies.

Project Hail Mary

Genuinely one of the best films I’ve ever seen. I absolutely loved it.

Gosling is outstanding in it.
I keep reading about how good the movie is, which is interesting b/c I hated the book, at least compared to The Martian. Maybe hate isn't the right word, but underwhelmed.

I was going to swerve it, but I think after everything I've been reading it's a must see
