Last Film You Watched

Taxi Driver. It's good, but nothing special. Travis Bickle is a complete nutter. Not sure how he's not in jail for life at the end of the film. Think ppl over rate it based off the "You looking at me" scene. I tend to find this quite a lot with old "classics" that ppl rave about. Was the same with One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. Good films, and some good performances/characters/scenes, but overall nothing more than 7/10 films.

Hmmm...but also you have appreciate when they were made and the ground they were breaking

If you watched the Godfather now you'd prob think it was very cliched, because so many films have copied it...

Yeah Taxi Driver is well ahead of it's time and since COVID it's probably been more relevant than ever. I think out of a lot of the Hollywood classics, this and 'A woman under the influence' hold up so well

Oh yh, I get that at the time they were good. It's like The Exorcist. I remember seeing that at uni, they re-released it in cinemas for the 20th anniversary I think. Me and my mates went to watch it. Now, when it first came out I'm sure it was terrifying. But when we saw it we were pissing ourselves with laughter, not fear. Time changes how good things are (much like growing up does), and many things lose a little something as that time passes. I think of films that I consider classics, ones from the 90s that are already a little old - Seven, Fight Club, Usual Suspects, American Beauty, Pulp Fiction etc. They are still as good now as they were then imo, and many of them I just don't see that changing rn. But in another 20 years? Will be interesting to look back and see.

It’s all subjective mate.

There’s people who think the likes of the Shining are plop too !

Talking of classic films, I mentioned a while ago that I’m trying to watch the top 100 films of an all time as designated by the American Film Industry. I’ve only got a handful to go. Cabaret has just popped up on iPlayer so another one knocked off.
That leaves me
Yankee Doodle Dandy
Mr Smith Goes To Washington
The Philadelphia Story
A Streetcar Named Desire
Who’s Afraid Of Virginia Wolf
One Flew Over The Cuckoo Nest.

A lot of the films on the list seem naff by today’s standards but are clearly on there for reasons of groundbreaking at the time.
