Dune.
Think Prometheus meets Star Wars meets Shakespeare meets Lord of the Rings.
Good film but very 'try hard'. They've concentrated on making it such a visual spectacle that in places it comes across as slow and boring IMO.
Well, it's based on a book, maybe one of the most influental science fiction books of all time, and in my opinion it stays very true to the book. Being a big fan, I loved that aspect, but I can totally see that it could be a different experience for those who haven't read it/them.
It's also difficult books to film because so much is going on in the character's heads, especially in the case of Paul Atreides. Some of that came across in the movie, but not even close to the what it's like in the books.
All in all, I really liked it! It managed to get across the most important parts of the books in a pretty solid way. And it was beautiful to watch. A bit slow, yes. My main gripe with it was some slightly iffy casting choices. I was not impressed by Jason Momoa as Duncan Idaho and I thought Oscar Isaac was so-so as Duke Leto Aitredes. Timothee Chalet did well as Paul Atreides I thought, but the best performances for me was from Rebecca Ferguson (Lady Jessica) and Stellan Skarsgård (Baron Harkonnen).
7.5/10 or thereabouts. Might have to see it again to finalize that score though. Looking forward to the next one!
