Last Film You Watched

Inferno. Worst film I’ve seen so far this year. Tom Hanks’ performance (great as always) and some of Zimmers music are the only redeeming qualities in this movie for me. The rest of the cast is terrible. Especially F. Jones is woeful. She gives the least believable character performance I’ve seen in a long long time. Her facial expressions are dull and expressionless and the way she delivers her lines are pathetically bad (and her accent is irritating. Hell, towards the end of the film even her face made me want to bang my head against a brick wall). She’s simply put not a good actress. Even Hanks couldn’t help with conjuring some chemistry between the two of them. Her character is badly written as well, so I guess she only gets 80% of the blame. Hanks also suffers from bad writing, but at least he makes it bearable with his performance. The dialogue is also cringeworthy and the story is a mess. 3/10
Two of the points is for my man, Hanks. The last point is for some nice Italian scenery.

Watched The Godfather part 1 and 2 over the weekend. Both absolutely boss didn't seem like 3 hours each to watch. I think I preferred the first 1 because of Brando. I really liked his slurry, mumbly (Is that a word?) delivery that just pulls you in. De Niro is great in the second but I'm all about Brando.

Also boxed off Raging Bull (pun intended) in between and wasn't as impressed, I think the black and white filming put me off a bit. Gonna watch The Godfather part 3 in the week.
I seen the Godfather in the Philharmonic years ago, great film on the big screen.

Raging Bull i love that one, for me the black and white adds something to it, things like La Haine and obviously Shindlers List made in the modern area but in black and white. Plus because Raging Bull is quite brutal in places you dont have loads of blood standing out. Besides the time its set in, most, well all perhaps boxing footage from back then is in black and white, so the film looks authentic. Much prefer Raging Bull to Rocky

if anyone is interested, got a mate who sits in the upper gwladys called Jordan who has his own isntagram movie review page.

Went to a special Halloween evening double bill of the Omen and the Exorcist years ago at a local cinema.

They got a special licence for the occasion, so they could sell beer.

It was such a laugh and as you say great to see " classics " in that context.

Journeyman

Boxer Matty Burton suffers a serious head injury during a fight. It is about the impact this has on his marriage, his life and and his family.

[Poor language removed] it's dark but so powerful

That last sentence. It suggests that you like proper films as opposed to Disney schmaltz.

Wild (2014). Wildly-unlikeable main character + unrealistic journey (she looks, sounds & acts the same throughout) + mawkish emoting + poor camera work which failed to show off American landscapes = 3/10 - earned its meagre 3 points with some of the more realistic wander details.

The book from which the film is taken is much much better.

* Reece Witherspoon was miscast as the lead too.
