Kone's value is in what he does on the pitch now. We won't be able to sell him for much (if at all) given his age. When he basically misses an entire season (of the [3?] he might have left at the top level ... and that's being generous) it makes this far more likely to be a bad signing than a good one. Not impossible he turns it around but right now things don't look great. Even with our limited funds there is no way they won't try to sign a young striker in the winter or next summer and if he's any good he'll be getting the games and Kone will be coming off the bench (so even less of a chance for him to turn it around).

I wasn't as against the signing as most; the age thing was touted by people who didn't want Barry and they were quite wrong. It was however a risk (just like every signing is a risk) and it looks like it's going to be an uphill battle to get value out of his signing. Oh well. RM wasn't going to win 'em all.

I cannot believe the knee-jerking here. What has happened to Everton supporters? Have we forgotten what makes us who and what we are?. Aroune's injury is TERRIBLE bad luck...for us AND him. With everything considered, I think this will go down as Everton's worst ever signing. At least there was a logic behind signing Bilic, Bakayoko etc. as they were considered top players when we got them, but Kone...

It's strange that both Kone and Alcaraz have suffered such serious injury problems so early in their Everton careers.

Kone will be 30 next week and Alcaraz is 31. Maybe that's a factor? I think once professional sportsmen pick up one injury they tend to have a run of them too, perhaps because they change their posture to protect the injury and strain other muscles or because they overdo it trying to come back early.

With Martinez being a qualified physio too it would be interesting to see if he brings players back up to speed any differently to Moyes, who seemed to play his favourite eleven even if they were struggling with injuries.

"The central defender missed the bulk of last season at Wigan Athletic with a groin injury and suffered a torn hamstring in the run-in". He's also suffered from a persistent hernia problem. Given his age as well, I wonder what kind of contract Bill offered him.
