Kone Signs on 3 Year Deal

He still has time to turn it around, but if Kone left in January for a nominal fee he'd be a strong contender for our worst ever signing. Not that it's his fault he's injured, but in terms of value for money it's hard to compare him favorably to anyone else we've ever had.
Agreed. IMHO he'd be up there with Nyarko and Kroldrup.

If he could heal up and contribute meaningfully over the next two to three seasons then fair enough, but the scope for that is now very limited. When he arrived he was competing to be the starting striker, whereas following the arrivals of Lukaku and Eto'o he is now 3rd choice by quite some distance. It's got to be virtually impossible for a 30 year-old, third choice striker to provide a decent return on a £5m price tag. However, had he not suffered the injury we wouldn't have picked up Lukaku and Eto'o....

He looked a good player at wigan and scored 13 goals in a relegated side.just a couple less than rom.injuries can happen to any player at any time. Ross has had some serious injuries and rightly doesn't get slated for it.As for the worst signing its VDM in my opinion

Van Der Meyde cost £2.5m and put the cross in for Gosling to score in that Derby. He gets by on this.

we already signed lukaku before the 1st knee injury, the 2nd more serious injury was nearly 2 months after lukaku arrived, we also only signed him to a 3 year deal so only 18 months left.

We're gonna throw some money at him to leave as he's not going to make it back and he's going to sign for Hajduk Split 24 hours later. Isn't he! Isn't HE!!!

we already had lukaku, and its incredibly unlikely kone will get a new deal so he wont be contributing for the next 2/3 seasons will he
We didn't sign Lukaku before Kone mate, of that I am 99.9% certain. And remember, Martinez has stated that he was surprised to be offered Lukaku by Chelsea, because he originally called them to see if a deal could be done for Demba Ba.

My comment about Kone impressing over the next two or three seasons was hypothetical. We are in a situation whereby if we DON'T resign him, we are left with a massive loss: £5m fee plus about £6m in wages over the course of his contract. If we DO resign him, AND he plays well, we may see something of a return. The injury came at a terrible time for him, that is sure.
