Koemoyes attitude away vs top 6

Some really terrible stats abound regarding playing away at the Top 6 and inability to recover from going behind.

More generally, our away form is a huge concern.

You could spend all day trying to pinpoint what causes this - its primarily an attitude problem though and I must say Koeman is doing little or nothing to counter that.

For a long, long time the players have looked afraid, unmotivated, and lethargic in these games and that is just unforgivable.

Most of us can take getting beat if we have a go but we don't have a go - we turn up meekly and take our beating.

I watched Milan vs Cagliari last night - I imagine Cagliari's whole team cost less than Sigurdsson but they went out and played, tried to get forward at every opportunity against opponents who have spent almost £200M over the summer and were desperately unlucky not to get a point against a supposedly far more illustrious side. They could go home with heads high.

Our approach and attitude on the other hand, is a disgrace.

To echo your point. Valencia went to real (the best team in Europe by some margin) and got a 2-2 draw and could have even won it late on.

This I agree with. Chelsea and Man City away was never going to be easy. Almost pinched the win at City. Its not going to get any easier in the next away game either. But, we've got to start winning away pretty quickly after that as it is an issue. Trouble is I don't see us scoring more than 1 goal in away games at the moment, so its tough because the pressure is on to keep clean sheets. Not easy against 'top' teams.

As you highlight, the fact that we're not scoring is a major problem.

Go one goal up against us and the chances are your gonna get something out of the game.

Love some of the critics, but come on we are building and if the last three results where in the mix between august and December we'd not have too many condemning voices

The point some lads don't seem to be getting, it wasn't the defeat that was the problem, it was the manner of the defeat, we waved the white flag from the kick - off. If we had got beat, but had had a go, and were actually in the game, then for me the defeat isn't a problem. The funny thing is it was almost (apart from the score, could have easily been 5 again though) identical to last season at Chelsea.

It's a mentality thing, there's a reason people still say they're a big club when they blatantly aren't, they try to project that image and it rubs off in all aspects of the club.

We play the underdog for the people image and act like we know our place. It's no coincidence we never win at these grounds and often capitulate against the bigger clubs.

I'm convinced we just have a weak mentality from top to bottom

Exactly this.

You just have to look at some of the responses/excuses to see that we know where we stand. Thing is we always will be in this position unless we change our mindset.

I don't think anyone truly thinks that we should be turning up and battering or even beating the likes of Chelsea away from home.

What would be nice is that for once, just once, we turn up at one of these grounds and have a go at them instead of meekly turning up and accepting our beating.

This early in the season it does feel somewhat of a knee jerk reaction but I think a lot of people are reacting this way because its been like this for 20 odd years and it's getting frustrating.

Exactly, you quite often hear of a team who hasn't won at x/y/z for however many years breaking the "spell" and winning there. Not us though. These things always seem to affect us more than others and I think it's down to the wrong mentality being bred.

You just have to look at this place before a derby, the fans don't think we can win because whenever you watch us play them it's blatantly obvious the players don't think we can either.

Do you think Rooney saw this and playing as a fan is why we got the 17yr old version of him ready to blow his top at everything in the second half?

2nd league game of the same, 6 in total with a starting 11 consisting of around 60% new players.

And you lot are pounding the floor like a cry arse toddler who has just had his favourite toy whipped of him for pissing the bed.

Take a long look in the mirror and imagine yourself wearing a lovely black and white stripped top. GeordieKopite biffs

Three at the back would be fine if one of them wasn't a plodder like Williams and we had two strong pacey wing backs which we don't.
We just get bogged down and are sitting ducks at places like Chelsea.
