Knee-Jerk Reaction or Wake Up Call?

I more or less said the same the other day at the moment we are not likely to get a better manager and by the same token he wont get a better club, but maybe we could bring in a more tactical minded assistant to help him as he never has a plan B(y)

Good post, Roy

1. We'll find it difficult to improve on Moyes
2. Moyes isn't better than Everton (FACT)
3. Moyes needs help as tactician

Perhaps there lies the answer

Problem is Nick, who would come and replace him? I understand the frustration with Moyes. He frustrates the hell out me on many occasions. But he's improved us and raised our expectations. The stuff about him being a poor tactician is correct. But he's got other virtues. He's a great motivator, pretty shrewd in the market and has, at least until this point, been capable of generating fan interest. The fans love him, which is a revenue spinner. The only person I know would jump at the job is Big Sam. He's a decent manager, but negative and probably quite dishonest. Who else is there? Who would take on the reins at Everton. And I mean serious candidates, not candidates which are the result of wishful thinking.

Ok, sorry mate.

A great motivator? How many times have you seen us come back from the dead and win a game? How many times have we turned a game on its head? How come he can't motivate players for a [Poor language removed] Derby match? Sorry mate, but come on.

I don't care who would come in, but I don't see why we should pay £60,000 a week for that.

Nick, how many teams come back from the dead? That's the sort of stuff from Roy of the Rovers. The fact is that Moyes has been a good manager, up until this season. We don't want just anyone to manage the club. We need someone that can at least hold things together, work on a budget and put some passion into things. I can think of one name offhand that I would accept, and I feel might consider coming here. I'm going to get a virtual slap for this but his name is Glen Hoddle. :o

But I'd prefer Moyes to sort it out. I enjoy the continuity and I believe he does have the potential to work through this. But he needs to get his arse into gear NOW.

Glen Hoddle? bizarre mate, he's [Poor language removed] up and believes disabled people are being punished from a previous life.

I can think of many teams who have come back from the dead.

Man U done it to us a few times. Liverpool done it in CL final, as did Man U. Whenever we go a goal down, I can't see us getting anything from it.

To go back to the initial post, this is not a knee-jerk reaction, it is a wake up call.

Moyes has also lost almost the same as he has won. He's treading water too often and not taking the bull by the horns. He takes far too long to turn around a situation and fails to have the resources needed to make the changes when they need to be made.

He fails to see that Neville is garbage in every way a footballer can be. He fails to sign enough players, be it on loan, free or whatever his budget allows to make sure they have a squad prepared for the season.

When we finished 4th that time, we failed to take advantage. When we finished 5th this time, we again have failed to take advantage. Why? What's the problem?

Maybe Moyes isn't that great afterall. Harsh fact, but a fact that we may need to get used to. Everything else is just pure denial and a hope that it will all come out in the wash.

Your where claiming at the start of the season Neville deserved to be in the team because of his passion. The way he celebrated in the Villa game aswell if I remember correctly. What's changed?

You also said you where worried about Moyes not signing in Pre-season, that and Jose Baxter going to Liverpool where your only worries at that moment in time.

Moyes has his faults but his positions over the past few years pretty much shows he's done a job on limited resources. 5th, 6th, 4th and 7th, 11th and 17th aren't bad finished by any means.

Ok, yeah I did say that about Neville. I was saying it because at the time the rest of the squad were not showing the same amount of passion, and that it was a credit to him. However, I didn't expect Moyes to not sign anyone to rival him for his position.

I am worried about Baxter not sticking it out, because I feel he may well go the same way as Rooney, but at the time I didn't expect the club to not sign any real signings. We only signed 2 maybe 3 players who were worthy of the squad, but we also lost a couple too.

No they are not bad finishes, but I don't care about last season or the one when we finished 4th. That's gone, this season is where its important and we are a joke at the moment. Worse start to as season I can remember (on and off the field)

As far as I can understand, this season wasn't well planned at all. It all started by letting go players without proper replacements. The most obvious one is Carsley (who I never rated).

Although I don't rate him at all, I have to admit his own merits. He has played a part for a considerable number of seasons. He should be kept until we could find someone better.

We brought in two midfielders in the last day of the transfer window. None of them is settled yet, and I wasn't expecting them to be.

These two changes from last season makes us a different side. We have kids who started playing when they should be getting protection. We made players play when they should be settling.

Clearly mistakes have been made, but sacking Moyes is out of proportion. He has proved his worth, and he should now leave on the credits earned before.

Maybe his final chance, yes, but he must be given the chance to turn things around.

He needs time, because we have new players in a higher quantity than I would desire and we have kids coming through on key positions.

Time is not only a couple of months. I'd say that until December we're not in play.

It's like growing a new side, paving our way to a new season.

But for now, I agree on Moyes mistakes and his biggest one is Fellaini. Not that he shouldn't be signed, far from it. But he shouldn't be so exposed right away. He's only playing because we are short in that department.

I disagree with the last part mate. You don't spend £15m on a player and put him on the bench when we have many injuries.

Other than that, spot on.

I wasn't referring to anyone on particular, this fact though is startling and is a crisis, 4 wins in the last 17 to me spells problems, and the sooner it is addressed the better.

I would doubt we are going to qualify for Europe, and to me that would destroy all the good work of the past 3 years.

You can say it's not a crisis, and the players can say they are going to address the defensive errors, but hearing it each week and not seeing any improvement just won't wash anymore.

And that's the part that frustrates me more than anything.

We made big improvements since Moyes took over and we're on the brink of throwing that away and starting over.

I really don't think that we can afford to do that.

You have to know what are you buying. If he's giving 15M for a player who was at the Olympics, he has to know that the lad didn't have enough rest. he didn't train with the rest of the squad for the whole pre season.

And that price tag will put a 20 year old boy under the scrutiny of some very demanding crowd, as we all are. And if the guy is not settled neither is in his best condition, then some burns will happen. It would have been the same with Moutinho or Ronaldo or whoever.

The same goes for Castillo, he shouldn't be playing right away.

Both players are strangers to the pace of the game in England, both never had a training nor a match in the pre season.

This is not how you build a next level side.

i'm trying my best to avoid negativity towards moyes. what if he'd left after the season where we crapped out of the champions league and uefa cup and finished 12th, where would we be today?

a lot of people seem to think everton have a reputation of being fickle fans, lets try to change that and get behind the gaffer.

I think moyes has lost some confidence and self belief. Going out of europe last season seems to have been the watershed. Up to then we were only going forward. Since then we have seemingly only gone backwards.

I think Moyes has lost his way and is a little uncertain just now how to put things right. I hope with time he will get out of the trough he is in. We need him. However I think things may be in the balance it is quite possible he might go if we go out against Liege, not because he thinks he is bigger than the club but because he has let us all down. Therein might also be the reason for the unsigned contract.

Lets give him time. He has earned it, surely.

Good post..our non moves in the summer (for whatever reason) are haunting us now,its just unprofessional to leave it signing players as late as we did

For a club with supposedly ambition of breaking into the top 4 this summers malarky wasnt good enough.

As for DM its time to sign or go now, simple as that personally i hope he stays but the longer this contract sge goes on the longer the unrest thats in the club will grow.
