Negativity on here is staggering, it really is.

The lad clearly has ability & seems to have a good attitude. He’s already been out & shown he can do well in the championship, so there’d certainly be takers for him if he can’t make the step up here.

Give the lad a chance FFS!
Well said, I agree. He seems to be more involved this time round so we must assume he's in for a greater role.

The thing is, will we offer him a new contract at some point like we're doing with all these youngsters that aren't going to play a minute of first team football?

These youngsters are getting an extra year for the new regime to assess them. Completely different scenario to Dowell.

i could see him going norwich for some reason, hed do well now theyve lost Maddison and Pritchard they need someone they can build a team around

Unfortunately not especially his lovely run up the middle that looked promising.

But encouraged that Silva is clearly giving him a chance to show what he can do, up to Kieran to prove he deserves a spot in the team.

Agreed. Seemed lacking in something...self belief maybe? That one you are talking about was nice though.

I mostly posted that to bump the thread to be honest. Was surprised nobody commented on him.

He's lacking more quality game time? Lacking proper training? Think he's still just a bit green, that's all.

Perhaps unfair on him, but it's feeling like it's make or break time for him. I would have preferred to see a bigger impact on a League 2 side so that we can be assured that he would at least influence a League Cup match against Oldham or the like.

I ain't giving up on him...not my nature. Just would have liked to see more. If he doesn't feel disappointed in his performance then he won't make it. I suspect if he watches the match he would be critical of himself. He should applaud himself at that deft little run into the box though.*

*if he's truly going to make it he would be critical of that too since he ended up on the deck

Hasnt taken his chance at all yet, he gets another chance at the weekend, hes gonna have to really impress to enter Marcos plans I feel.

I mean of course its not all over for the boy, hes still very young so you would think he will be given plenty more chances.

He was very impressive last pre-season, so hopefully hes catching the eye in training, he at times looks a very talented boy, sadly he goes utterly AWOL for long, long periods in games and thats something he needs to address.

Early days yet tho...

He’s a luxury player through and through, which I believe was the verdict of Notts Forrest fans after his blistering hot start for them.

The question that really needs answering is can we accommodate a lad that might turn up to one game in three and make an impact?

Some very similar traits to Klaassen, albeit with a better upside.

Doesn't fancy a crowded midfield, evidently.

I mean he did alright enough when he dropped in, back to defenders, and laid it back off to a teammate... but largely non-influential in the main.

Still think he's a classy player like.

So because Dowell, possibly the least experience in the side, didn't run the show against a League 2 side in a preseason friendly, a side that previously drew with Liverpool, it's make or break for him? There's like 20 other players who didn't run the show either, all of whom have much more experience than him.

I guess that also means Niasse is our most important player and we should build the team around him.

I came in here fully expecting a shedload of "crap" "sell" comments but I think the comments have been fair tbh. He had a poor 60 minutes in an early pre-season friendly so it needs to be put into perspective. The problem is, we all know he is a very classy and talented kid and we all want him to succeed. We also know that under previous managers he will be given a very short time span in which to prove himself (even shorter given the UK deadline day), so the pressure would normally be on him to impress. However, I'm hoping that the Brands/Silva axis are different. From everything they've said they seem to be prepared to give youth more opportunity and to use them as squad players going forward. Silva appears to be a proper coach, not just a tactics man, and he looks to be excited about working with these young lads and helping them develop. That's something we've been lacking at Everton for as long as I can remember.

I'm really looking forward to seeing how Dowell and these other kids progress under Silva over the next couple of years.
