Kids starting school

It feels like I start school again every time I have to go do my pracs.
It's really stressful!

Anyway, kids should love school... The grown-up world is a difficult place.

What's that got to do with the Price of Suits?

Making kids go to school in Winter seems a bigger punishment tbf.

Agreed. One of the dumbest things we do in this country is run our school year around the scheduling set up hundreds of years ago to permit children to be free to assist with the harvest! Every winter we see schools closed for "snow days", or worse still they remain open when people clearly cannot safely travel. The bulk of the school year is also too rainswept to permit a proper outdoor school sports programme, AND every year kids get homework to do over christmas.

School should start in the second week of January and end in the second week of December. 48 weeks instead of the current 39.

McBain, what country are you in? I might send my kids to boarding school there.

Nah,

I'd like to have a summer holiday with the kids thanks.

Good old Australia mate.

From memory School here goes from February to December, and true, it is probably because of Summer.

But getting to School in Winter must be bloody tough.

Just re-read what I wrote and I phrased it poorly. I don't mean 48 weeks of continuous schooling, rather a pattern of 6 weeks on, one week off followed by six on and two off. Repeat until end of year (last term has to be three weeks only).

You got any friends who happen to be primary or junior school teachers? Ask them what impact the 6 - 8 week summer break has on the academic attainment of the average child. Four weeks is more than long enough away from school.

Little one starting reception tomorrow and 7 year old up to combined school, year 3 I think. Why do they return to school on a Thursday? Seems pointless to me

It's so they can get back into the routine, two days in and then have the weekend off. :)
