If memory serves on that one…HR was interviewed after we had signed Ali and he said he had called FL to advise him to have a go at signing him and FL said the process was already underway.
Harry Redknapp also said he didn’t avoid paying his taxes.

We had 31 days to sign players, not one. Players should have been looked at to come in on New Year’s Day not have a last day scramble. The Gordon fee should have been invested. That’s on him as DoF, he failed his job and so far he’s failing the summer window as wellAnd had he done that and splurged £20m on Tall Paul the bedwetter brigade would have been fuming at him for wasting money.
Cant really win can he with some ?

Oh, Lampard was unquestionably the worst manager we have ever had in my book. Worse than Mike Walker for me.If memory serves on that one…HR was interviewed after we had signed Ali and he said he had called FL to advise him to have a go at signing him and FL said the process was already underway.
Load of bollocks, nothing to do with Lampard it’s about what Thelwell alone has done, which is absolutely nothing to address the key issuesNot if that money isn't available for transfers which it possibly wasn't considering the need to post a profit on the books last season.
You're blaming the man because you and a few others have had it in for him since day one and cant accept that he out lasted the Tory dosser.
Judge him fairly when he has had a proper budget to bring in players because you're blowing bubbles if you think any other DOF could sign a load of ballers and the next Suarez in January on the budget constraints we've had to deal with these past 2 seasons.

You mean like the key issues in that we had no defence or midfield prior to last season and he goes and brings in Tarkowski, Onana & Gana ?
Give your heed a wobble man and realise we don't have the money to fix every area of the pitch in 1 season !
If he signs a CF & LB this window he's pretty much fixed all of our main areas of weakness on a near none existent budget yet I bet that still won't be enough for some...
I dont recall you saying anything when Brands left us short in key areas despite spending circa £200m+![]()
Brands was crap as well as was Walsh, but they at least brought people in to score, Thelwell waited 5 games, after we’d lost Richarlison to Spurs and DCL to injury, to bring Maupay in when he had all summer. You mean like the key issues in that we had no defence or midfield prior to last season and he goes and brings in Tarkowski, Onana & Gana ?

Incompetence just has a new face, when we replace like with likeOh, Lampard was unquestionably the worst manager we have ever had in my book. Worse than Mike Walker for me.
But now? Nothing has changed and can change while Kenwright remains the chief negotiator. Thelwell is an irrelevance, in much the same way the three who have already left the board were. He is as irreplaceable as they were...

As @ToffeeTim correctly pointed out, we over prioritised defence and midfield, with mitigating success, when the main area was grossly neglected. We didn’t need to spend £35m on Onana when we could have got a half decent scorer for half that from abroad
Lampard pushed for Maupay and wanted his team building around DCL who we all knew wouldn't stay fit mate.
Whilst a CF would have been nice in January the questions raised are:
1. Did we have the money to sign a decent one ?
2. Where there any decent ones out there available who wanted to join a club in a relegation scrap in between manager appointments and a fanbase at war with the clubs board ?
Saints spent £40-50m on that tall Paul and the winger we were linked with and Wolves loaned Cunha and have to fork out €44m to sign him permanently and none of them did anything of note.
There is a shortage in world football of quality strikers truth be told and I dont think in January we would have signed anyone worth the fee we would have had to have paid imo other than Ings who apparently wouldn't entertain a move ere.
1st priority should always have been the forward position as that’s where we were weakestHow ? we signed 2 CB's which was necessary as Mina couldn't stay fit and Holgate/Godfrey are crap. One was a free transfer and the other a cheap loan.
We had no midfield to play the 433 that fans were hounding every manager to play so he signs Onana & Gana to be able to do that.
You say we didn't need Onana but no Onana meant Tom Davies or Gomes not loaned out.
Truth be told our squad heading into last season was very poor/threadbare and minus Richarlison who was sold we had fires that needed putting out all over the pitch minus the GK / RB.
Instead of crying over spilt milk when we didn't even get relegated why not wait and see what happens this window eh ?
