Interesting info showing reserve and academy players of the year. Mostly they don't make it. Mostly because they are not strong enough to dislodge the full internationals in front of them.

Year Reserve Player of the Year Academy Player of the Year
2012 Adam Forshaw Hallam Hope
2011 Jose Baxter Jake Bidwell
2010 Shane Duffy Adam Davies
2009 Kieran Agard James McCarten
2008 John Irving Jack Rodwell
2007 John Irving Shaun Densmore
2006 Victor Anichebe Scott Phelan

I am in favour of getting a few in. We got two in the summer window, kennedy and the other Irish lad (forget name sorry if you reading !). Let's hope they push through, or if not we pick up a few quid for them

Lesser options than Phil Neville in midfield, Vic and Mcfadden on the wing and Saha upfront?

Exactly.

I meant better because in Moyes eyes they are more experienced so therefor better.

An out of form out of position senior players gets games ahead of a promosing young inexperienced player.

Even when we are 4-0 up at home with only thr 7th place trophy to play for.

Not what happens at a team where youth gets a chance.

Ok, then Youth doesnt get a chance at Everton.

We have destroyed that myth.

Phew.

I was gonna start a thread before the start of the season detaling which young players (from the reserves/academy) got game time this season. But i forgot.

Mind you, it would be pretty empty thus far.

Garbutt, Barkley, Duffy and Gueye.

Were they all in the League Cup?

Probably, cause Leyton Orient are about their level apparently.

But its not a bad thing, good if they did. League cup gamesd against lower league teams are a good place to start.

Naturally it should lead to League appearances.

The facts at the moment are quite simple.

We have played 4 games.

In 2 of them we played superbly, we beat United and we destroyed Villa, we then gave some of the "younger" lads a little game time for Leyton Orient and rightfully, the United and Villa players came back in.

We then played like a team of strangers from the conference at WBA.

So based on THIS Season alone, I would love it if somebody could point out when the Youth was gonna play.

Against Villa before they scored their goal? Instead of Coleman or Heitinga. Other than that we haven't played any other games where it'd make some sense to do so.

I don't know, when should youth play at the club who give youth a chance? Maybe when 3-0 at half time against Villa, maybe they could have got a chance then. Maybe.

Or maybe use last season as a guide. See when youth got a chance at the club where youth gets a chance then.
