I think our midfielders give our defenders a lot of protection so if we had Koulibaly+VVD or even similar quality stars who are fast+ tall and can tackle we could do very well with pickford as even if hes shorter than most keepers he has superb reflexes so we could look good defensively.

VVD+Koulibaly would be the dream and it would be hard to find a better centre back pairing in world football on paper

This is a dream I hope becomes a reality this Summer. If we can get those two defenders plus a better keeper we will be a contender immediately for top 4 IMO
 
This would be some signing. He's absolutely class - even better than VVD imho in terms of out and out defending. If he had a good partner and keeper behind him teams would have a hell of a task breaking us down.

However he's the least realistic of all the defenders we've been linked with, I'm not confident he'll leave Napoli to come here. Hopefully money will talk.

He's turned us down once before, Napoli is in the champions league and contending for Serie A titles. This is a non-goer imo.

They haven't contended a league title mate, Juve run away with that league every year, finishing 2nd or 3rd when your miles off isn't contending for anything.

BTW - player hasn't ever turned us down, Napoli have never accepted a bid so how can the player turn anything down?

If people think this qualifies as 'contending' then best of luck to them.
