It's just crazy to me posts like this. I get wanting to support the team and that there haven't been a ton of positives so anything that might be decent is seized on. But at the same time most of the defense of Pickford lately isn't so much what he's doing as it is absolving him of blame. And sure not every goal should have been prevented but also the times where he does step up and make the saves stay far apart. When was the last time? I don't think it's happened since the calendar turned. Yeah the only real mistake was against Brentford but you've got to make saves too.
So to say Ramsdale isn't close, well sure he's overrated, but he's certainly close at worst.
Pickford’s form for England is very good though. How many other England keepers have kept mistakes to a minimum, made big saves in crucial moments, and saved penalties? Tournament mentality is a completely different thing so it’s no surprise Southgate keeps picking him.
As for big saves for Everton, wasn’t there one just in the Villa game when there was a standing ovation for his save it was so good?
I was very critical of Pickford under Ancelotti because he had that spell where he was dropping balls and making an error a game, but since Olsen came in he’s been very very good.
He’s probably held to a higher standard than any other keeper though. If Ramsdale makes a few saves he gets lauded as englands number 1 despite the many many mistakes he’s making. Pickford can have huge periods without a mistake yet the second he makes a small one his international role is cast in doubt. If he was making the types of errors that Lloris Allison even Schemichal make all the time he’d be under huge pressure. The fact he ain’t shows how consistent he’s been recently.
