He also parrys balls directly to the opposition inside our own box regularly. God knows why he doesnt learn(intelligence?)

Yeah I’d say that’s an ability fault as well. Top keepers often parry the ball wide of the goal naturally, sometimes there’s nothing you can do if a shot is hit from close enough range, but Pickford parries it into the danger zone far more than he puts it to safety.

he is making mistakes but is our goal keeping coach good enough to help him with all this? he was our best player a few seasons ago. do we need a new coach in to help out here

The whole team played well at spurs, he did not win us win points he contributed. Its a nonsense rhetoric that overplays what he has done well and downplays his mistakes.

I would absolutely put him in the Karius bracket as well
I didn't say he won us the points. I said he contributed to the win. Without one save in particular - which he had no right to make - we may not have won. He was very good at Spurs. However, that has been the exception, not the rule. He isn't at Karius levels yet, but he's not a million miles away from him on current form and he is on a dangerous path.

One of his problems right now is that people are prepared to say "he cost us the points" when he blunders but are not prepared to say "he helped us win the points" on those increasingly rare occasions when he actually does. He hasn't actually cost us points this season, but it's only a matter of time on current trends. The team has bailed him out on a few occasions now. He needs to redress that balance starting in the derby.

In fairness your opening post said he won us 3 points, I agree with line bolded in this post.

My beef with him is his ability to take momentum away from the team, we've just about coped with him this season but is only a matter of time before its costs us like it has been for previous seasons, where it wasn't just those games but had a big knock on effect after. Its a high pressure position with an unforgiving spotlight on it but ultimately those are the stakes and for me he has has been poor for a long time now and I've such little patience with him that I most likely overreact but we are definately seeing him affect his defenders and that could well be the tipping point, which is hard on the defence because they have for the most part been really good this season

Reading a lot of the above (skimming really) reminds of of those Stalin purge trials of the 1930s when it was necessary to bring someone down and execute them. Witness after witness with excruciating (hardly believable) details of their crimes culminating in GUILTY, TAKE HIM DOWN and SHOOT HIM. I gave away my Solzenytzen (?) books. Very hard to read. Is Pickford really as bad as the above tries to make out?

Feel free to actually disprove any of the above.

In fairness your opening post said he won us 3 points,
I really didn't say that. I said he was "instrumental" in us winning three points. I don't want to split hairs, but you are attributing something to me that I did not express. He played his part in us winning that game, no more nor less than DCL, James, or Allan did. Given that I agree with much of what you say, I just want to clarify that so that there is no misunderstanding. Where I differ from you is that I feel he is not given the credit for when he does play well - and I believe he deserved a lot of kudos for his Spurs performance which was not simply a case of him "doing his job" no more than DCL scoring a hat-trick against Brighton was him "doing his job." It was an excellent performance, the level of which you will not get every week. However, his behaviour and erratic performances have made a rod for his own back, so this is largely on him.

I think he's probably on the way out at Everton because many of the fans are now implacably opposed to him. I'd have my doubts that he can play so well as to make them look foolish, so it's probably a matter of time now before he is deposed and shunted out. And another cock-up in the derby will spell an immediate end, I suspect. Let's face it, you wouldn't bet against it.

Unless you are Jose who is a fully qualified sports psychologist (hence the mad mind games all the time) it tends to come under the sports science umbrella so it will be all in with that. Id be very surprised if we did'nt have one tbh.

Just looked and it's some guy called Lewis Charnock who also works at JMU
He isn't doing a very good job with Pickford at the moment. Maybe bring somebody else in as a one off. There must be one who specialises in keepers somewhere

It might be an idea, also i remember reading somewhere that Kelly is Pickfords preferred choice of goalkeeping coach, maybe we should just change him, Carlo must have worked with some top GK coaches over the years surely?

Once the whole nation, and not just your own supporters, realise you’re bang average, it’s a downward spiral. Any f*ups against the RS and it’ll surely be the last straw for Carlo. I can’t see how we will get much of that £30m fee back.
