Confirmed Signing Jonas Lossl

Thats the concern for me - I want us to go all out for the cups this season and from what I saw of Huddersfield last season he was no better than the rest of them.

Totally forgot we had signed him tbh until today.
I want us to go all out for every cup as well mate but a keeper change alone isn’t the be all and end all.

We have only signed 2 players and you forgot 1 of them? Good going there lad.

Lets be honest we likely only signed him because he was a free transfer - had Huddersfield commanded a fee I imagine we would have looked elswhere as he's nothing special.

My point is completely valid for a debate yet the usual try hard gestapo love turning a talking point personal/shut down debate - when as a football club did we last have a "good" back up keeper?

I honestly can not remember however for me if we plan to rotate in the cups next season we should have gone for a more experienced (and good enough) stand in.

I get your point on him just being one player but good goalie's like strikers can win you games mate - when we were gash but had Martyn in the sticks I always remember my glory hunting Utd supporting mate always pointing out how he stood out for us - Lossl from what I saw of Huddersfield last season looked as poor as the rest.

Hopefully he is a suprise package but meh would have rathered someone to really push Pickford this season who at times last season seemed too comfortable.

It’s not being honest though to say we signed him because he was free, it is a throw away comment based on no substance.

Who was Martyn’s back up? Was it Turner? I honestly am trying to remember without using Google and that probably illustrates the point I’m trying to make. Goalies rarely miss games and yes they are crucial but only one can play at a time.

I agree re the need for competition though and that is why Virginia has gone out to play senior football for the year rather than kids stuff.

Apparently he always saved his best games for playing Utd

Richard Wright was the back up, then turner, and then the one who did well at Norwich?

At one point we'd had a crisis and had to get westerveld via special dispensation.

From what I remember we were down to just Turner and Ruddy (I assume Wright had tripped over his dog or fell out of the loft again so was unavailble for the next 10+ years). Turner got himself sent off dead early against Blackburn (I think) for picking up the ball just outside the box. We were left with just an 18 yr old Ruddy. Westerveld only played one game didn't he?

Correct.

Alan Stubbs headde it back to him from about 2 yards away and Turner naturally parried the ball instinctly. Left us with Ruddy.

Fun fact we had 3 disallowed goals that game but ended up with a 1-0 win.

No problem with this signing, we need a number two, just hope Silva isnt dumb enough to play him in the League Cup and rest a quailty keeper
