Feel good with him as no 2 for the next year. We need to buy another young goalkeeper to fight with him for the place to keep him improving. At least same quality as Joel is needed though.

Well I don't think we are going to buy a new expensive goalkeeper only to backup Joel. For example if we buy Karius or Horn, they will want to be number one here. They can come here as number one, but I want strong 2 to push him. Joel is a strong number 2 for me. I am not 100% sure to believe him to be our number one yet.

if we have a massive budget then sure let's sign a top keeper, but as it stands he is certainly not top of the shopping list

i will bow to your knowledge of better keepers who will come here, I can only go on the keepers I see in the premiership and to be fair, there havent been many that much better, I agree he isnt the best far from it, but we have bigger problems elsewhere at the moment

I think he's done bloody excellent, even better than I thought he would tbh and he can certainly hold his head up high at the end of the season.

He has done nothing wrong and has literally saved us in a few matches. Solid currently.

Its maybe that he is not a big name which is what's not doing him any favours. But if he does his job and doesn't make stupid mistakes a lá Howard then we can't have any complaints. Not comparing talent but big Nev came relatively unknown from Bury and look how he turned out, and he certainly wasn't glamorous!

Unless Manuel Neuer agrees to break his new contract at Bayern and profess a previously unknown love of the Blues then I think Joel be given his chance. But I would agree with flibbyflob that if we do spend big on a keeper then he should be allowed leave to play elsewhere. He's not a No.2.

But for the moment, we shouldn't really be talking about replacing him. Its whats in front of him that needs addressing. He deserves better cover than that currently.

Well, yes. Joel seems to be good last few weeks. But it was not even a half of a season. I am still not sure we can trust him as number one. The thing that I say is that we need another goalkeeper of at least similar ability. And I think that they will want to come here only if we promise them they will get a chance as number one. In the end it does not matter too much. We need to buy a quality goalkeeper no matter what.
