Joel Robles

He's done okay, but I think if we can afford to, we owe it to ourselves to go and get a bonafide World Class GK this summer

Robles is fine as back up, but he's not a first choice keeper for a club with ambitions of competing for the top spots IMO
A good defence is a necessity first too?
Otherwise just floorboard the goal up irrespective Joel does make saves, not as many errors than Timmy in him - a good run in the team when playing well, and he may save us a fortune !
The money needs to be spent in other key positions two centre halfs who partner well to win headers out would be a nice start!

Jags, an England international with about 40 caps and played over 300 games for us. Mori a full international defender with Argentina, and John Stones the brightest prospect for England who has suffered a blip for the first time in his career but will grow from it. Galloway who is a very highly regarded defender who has made a number of appearances already.

We need to spend money on this position before buying a new keeper?? Wow, that's all I can say to that.

Hang on here Joey. I thought according to you the defense was tops, and the only thing that needed changing was Tim Howard out and we'd be top 4? Changing your tune?

No you hold on we are not concedeing 2-3 goals after playing well we are playing dross now, and If Joel had been in when we were playing well we would have been higher than 12 th - via RM bad management leaving Timmy in its cost us now all over the park!

Jags who is nearing the end of his career has been great never a ball winner in the air player you mean!
Admired Liecester on Sunday they play like a team solid from back to front!
They have not needed billions just a good manager, their keeper this season averages 1 and a half saves per game, set prices they head the ball miles clear!

While Joel isn't crap, I can't imagine a new manager of the calibre we're all hoping for will be comfortable with him as the #1 keeper.

Actually if Joel wants to play I could see him leaving, maybe back to Spain. With (probably) no Europe next year his opportunities would be very limited.

But Tim was the only difference between us and top 4. Now he's not? Crazy! FYI, this is not a debate on who is the better keeper. We all know Joel is. It's pointing out the lunacy some on here had that the only thing wrong with our team was Tim. There's so much wrong with the team and has been all season.

The difference was Tim was in when we should have been winning games clangers everywhere in his ability to keep goal remember Chelsea away when he managed to run out and miss the ball and two players??
We were playing very good football then how many 2 goal leads did we throw away via Tims ability not to control his six yard box?
Joel has come in when the teams form all over has dipped dramatically that's the point I am making TBH I cannot see where our next wins coming from unless RM can get some motivation back!

No, the biggest mistake was not dropping Howard last season after the Palace home defeat. Howard alone is responsible
for the loss of 9-12 points this season.

Weekly disappointments have eaten the spirit of the team away and confidence is low. How can it not be when you go to Arsenal and play well and lose because of a joker in goal; ditto at Chelsea, Swansea home, LFC home etc etc

Howard has been dropping the ball for years, RM started this season.

I'm not sure what more you want mate really

That's my opinion, you clearly have a different one

Last time I checked, that's what internet forums were for

It's not unusual to explain your opinion though. If forums were just for stating opinions with no justification, explanation or nuance then it'd essentially just be one massive poll.

Why do you not think Joel is good enough?

If Joel cost £15m+ and performed as he does then everyone would be happy. It feels like people are assuming we could do better because we got him from Wigan. He has far more strengths than weaknesses. He's young but he's experienced in the premier league and he's improving.

I've seen most of his games in person this season and I just don't think he's a top bracket goalkeeper

Don't get me wrong, he's a'ight, but nothing more IMO

He's less shaky on crosses than Howard and commands his box better, but his distribution is poor and he's guilty of bad decision making from time to time

If we are getting proper investment and giving the manager an actual decent war-chest for the summer, then I think there are better goalkeepers out there than Joel who we should be looking at

Again, I've been saying this for a long time, as my previous posts in this thread will show
