Joel Robles

also i will criticize martinez for this as well.

Although Joel didn't do anything wrong i think if he had been given more playing time to get his confidence and match reactions up he would have played better.

We saw last season when he had both of that up, he'd come and collect everything go through anyone to get things.

He should have played the past few games just for that alone.

It does look as if Tim Howard will leave during the summer. We have the FA cup to play for and of course the remaining league games.

At this stage the roles between keepers should be reversed. Let Tim Howard play the cup games and let Joes try to prove that he should be first choice keeper for the foreseeable future.
He at least deserves the opportunity.

Or just as an idea, not let Howard play any games because we only have the fa cup left so I'd rather Joel plays them and Howard gets splinters in his arse as a sub until the end of the season..

It's not 'Howard's cock ups aside' though is it?

It's 'Howard's cock ups AND a crap defence'.

Not sure I've seen anyone say any different.

One thing I have always thought about Howard is that he did not play footie as a kid. No idea if that is true but he hesitates eg Swansea's first goal when he kicks the thing as opposed to Robles who is comfortable on the ball.

I was convinced by Robles' run in the team last season and believe it will be a disgrace, and will increase the pressure on RM, if Robles is not rewarded by a run in the first team.

He's american mate, thats a given, you can tell with them all, hard workers, good athletes, but not a natural footballer amongst them

why should howard play any games, lets see what joel can do and start moving forwards

This is what i thought on the run up to the first game and the last round of the FA cup a few days later. Martinez should of handed him some match practice over the Christmas period but he didn't, not for the point of dropping Howard but for giving Joel game time since he hadn't played for a month.
But he didn't because he is too stubborn, that one that bugged me was City in the league, the perfect game to get ready for tonight. OK Howard had a good game that night but even the Swansea game might of helped.
Anyway Joel didn't do anything wrong tonight, i bet he wont on Sunday either.

Thought Joel played well tonight, and has done all competition. When he came steaming out and headed clear when Jagielka was about to lose out to Aguero it really emphasised the gap between him and Howard (who's decision making with Costas goal two weeks ago was dreadful)

Hasn't really put a foot wrong tonight and still conceded three. Deserves a chance in the league

Surely Joel must now be the starting goalkeeper for the rest of the season.

And I think given a run he coukd be quite good.......save us money in the transfer market.

He is going to play in any F.A.Cup ties we have anyway.

So just let him have the remaining league games.......we know he will not be any worse than what we already have.

If Tim Howard gave the same performance Joel did tonight you would all be tearing him a new one. Fact is the team defense is horrible. We allow the most shots in the league. They do their best to make any keeper we play look bad.

I'm not saying he put in a bad performance tonight or anything, but I can't see how he'd be any more likely to start in the league now than he was yesterday. He certainly didn't do much wrong, but I don't see what he did that would make someone who didn't think he should start over Howard change his mind.
