It's not ridiculous. He knew about one of his coaches raping a 10 year old boy in the locker room of HIS program. All he did was tell his boss. He gets no sympathy from me. Imagine if that was your little brother that got raped and they guy who was in charge of the program knew about it and did virtually nothing, and continued employing the guy.

The whole thing is a tragedy.

Yes, he was fired for something he didn't do. He didn't properly report a molestation crime against a 10 year old boy. There are conseqeunces to that mistake, and losing your job as the face of a university is one of them.

He should feel lucky that this is the worst thing happening to him so far. It's certainly better than the 7 additional years of abuse other boys went through for his moral transgression.

Certainly there are others more culpable, but he deserves everything he's getting.

*allegedly.

Awful in all aspects. He had to go and the Penn State President too - they're in too deep to do anything else. You think it's bad for Penn State now (and absolutely rightfully so), imagine if he was going to coach the rest of the season. It would get worse for Penn State daily - on an exponential basis. Shame on them.

Who knows what the graduate assistant actually said to Paterno? I think this is a gigantic overreaction. Yes, absolutely, what happened was horrible. But it has turned into a gigantic media sh*tstorm and now the board of trustees just wants to feel like they are doing something about it.

I think this line is telling:
Asked what Paterno did wrong, Surma (board of trustees vice chair) said: ''I can't characterize that. We thought because of the difficulties that have engulfed our university, it was necessary to make changes.''

Paterno admitted he should have done more. There is a moral responsibility for him (and the others moreso, of course) to report this and see it through. It didn't happen. This monster was seen on campus just as soon as last week, even though many knew about the grand jury from 2009.

He's built this air of high moral character and honor at the university and didn't follow that. He deserves to lose his job because of that.

Practically, as well, there is no way that the university could have him on the sidelines Saturday. McQueary shouldn't be either, but I don't think that story as been told yet.
