Jobs For the Boys - The End of this Era?

Following the heartbreaking news of Chairman Bill's passing yesterday it got me thinking that some positive change can come from this terribly sad situation.

We've seen countless times in the past when the arl luvvy couldn't help himself in extending roles at Everton to people in no way qualified or suitable to perform them: Sharp to the Board of Directors, Jeffers and Baxter working with the youth teams, Unsworth and Ferguson as manager, a washed-up Rooney brought back, etc.

We all enjoy Everton being somewhat of a family club, but maybe a less sentimental approach from our next Chairman will lead to positive change.

I don't like seeing loud-mouthed divvies like Bellew given the VIP treatment at Everton, or crap former players being assured there is "always a job for them here".

While we mourn the loss of Beloved Bill, hopefully the Jobs for the Boys Era is gone with him and we can become a more progressional outfit through better recruitment on and off the pitch.

Every club retains/employs staff who are either local, support, or have a history with that club.

We've probably been on the more extreme end of it, but I think football will always have a "jobs for the boys" element.

Couldn't agree more, and it's important to retain, respect and honour some of those that have done the club well and contributed to its success.

We've definitely been on the extreme end though and what I'm arguing is that we'll hopefully employ a more sensible/ruthless/business-like/ambitious (mix of all of this) approach going forwards.

It wasn't just 'jobs for the boys', it was deliberately hiring people that wouldn't dare to 'rock the boat' in a Kenwright controlled Everton. Anyone that was willing to merely question the party line was excommunicated.

When someone is deliberately hiring substandard employees in order to secure their own executive position, then people are going to start questioning whether they are putting their own needs ahead of the club, and that's what happened.
