Jelavic Injury?

It's actually a pretty common condition in athletes (commonly called sports hernia, though it is NOT a hernia), it's just that it's usually diagnosed or put forward as a groin injury rather than it's actual name. Worst case scenario is that he'll need surgery. Dr. Ulrike Muschaweck in Germany is seen as the go-to doctor for this procedure among professional athletes (at least, that's the case with US athletes but I've heard of a few Prem players going to her as well) and while the recovery time is listed as 4-6 weeks, most professional athletes come back far quicker than that; I've seen some return in 10-14 days.

Cheers. Take that Davek.

Thanks for that mate. Very good bit of info.

I searched out her technique on YouTube and she does appear to be able to get athletes back a hell of a lot sooner than others in her field by leaving out the mesh they insert to add strength to the groin canal - she reckons it just stiffens the affected area and therefore causes a delay in recovery (watch this from 8 mins in):

However, as the American hernia surgeon said at the end: it's impressive but there is a worry that the technique might be a best fit for certain players and not others. If she's been goping since 2005 I'd be wondering why this hasn't been adopted universally as time = money in pro sports and American clubs would want what's quickest and best.

Thoughts?

Dave, look at it this way - you're right, it could be 6 months or whatever. BUT it can also be 2 weeks. Stop being a negative Nancy for once, will you? Always looking for the worst case scenario.

Lad saying on twitter there his injury is more serious than they thought and could be out for months, he said he'll know more tomorrow @SOS1878 don't know how reliable he is mind due

Barkley would be out for a year though, eh Damon?

Nah.

Its common post puberty in sportsmen. I did mine playing football. Its due to muscle changes.

I told you he could go in tomorrow, be out tomorrow and be back in light training next monday. Its keyhole these days.

They usually build up the training so, he'd get about two weeks rehab then training I reckon.
